Hi gang. I'm a new player, getting geared up to start Seraphon. I have been into 40K for a couple years, but haven't done much with AoS. I have a couple of Start Collecting: Saurus on the way. I got a pretty good deal on those, and I really like the look of the models. This is more of a painting project for me (I'm tired of painting Death Guard! I want some pretty colors for a change...) but if it translates into a decent mid-tier list that I can have fun with then that's a bonus. If anyone has advice as to how to expand off the basic 2x carnosaur, 15x knights and 20x warriors, I'd be grateful for your advice. I am more concerned with having cool dinosaurs and creamy transitions on my layers, but if it can also be good in the game that's definitely a "nice to have". Thanks!
I am a bit out of the game myself so all I can say is Welcome to Lustria! The other guys can help you out with the army builds.
Welcome to Jurassic Park! Ach! I too cannot help you with AoS builds, as I prefer the high-wine of the 8th edition. However, take a look at the AoS sub-forums and there is a wealth of ideas on tactics and army lists as well as lots of people who are super-helpful and can answer any of your questions. Make sure you start a painting blog so we can see your progress! Enjoy!
Like other's here, I know Warhammer 8th and earlier better than AoS (please let us know if you don't know what that means), but the most noticeable thing your army doesn't have is Skinks. There are two main types of Seraphon basic guys, Saurus are big and strong, able to go toe to toe with pretty much anything and great at biting faces, and Skinks are are fast, sneaky and great shooting the enemy from the sides before running away. At least in the days of 8th, these two work very well together Skinks soften up the enemy and make them go where you want them to before the Saurus and your big dinos rip them to pieces. I would guess this is still true in AoS, but someone who knows the game better would be in a better place to explain that.
Welcome aboard! first of all, as said, you can ask all the questions you want in the AoS subforum. In the meantime, here's a handy tutorial ATM, i like the fact that you have carnos and knights. You're on the way to field some nice firelance! to expand your army, first of all you will need casters, as they are one of our main advantage (and we need magical support to fully work). So i'd suggest a Slann and at least a skink starpriest (which will prove to be vital for your knights). If you want to try firelance, some more knights could help also, to have at least a 10 knights unit.
Thanks! I did post in the subforum too, so looking forward to the advice. Regarding casters, is it better to go with a basic Slann, or Lord Kroak? Both models look really cool so I could see myself going with either. That's a great tutorial! Thanks for that. I was going to convert my skink oracles from the troglodon kit to be starpriests, if folks think that is kosher.
I'd say Kroak. ATM he's much better, so i would stick with it, unless you really need the additional points you're welcome I don't think why not. It's a GW model, so a conversion as starpriest should be valid even in a official tournament.
