The gut wrenchingly sad ending of Futurama's Jurassic Park was inspired by a true store. A dog in Japan would greet his adult owner when he got off the subway every day. After the owner died the dog went to the Subway stop every day for over three years.
Both of these make me feel intensely happy and sad equally... I have a little Bichon who waits by the door for me to get home as she know the time that I arrive back. She's eight. They live to 12-14. We had an incident last year where she had bladder stones and almost died because an incompetent vet saw her and said was just a UTI and to take anti-biotics. Thankfully we recognized that the lack of change meant something was still wrong and took her to another vet. If we had been 24hrs later, she might not have made it. But now, I'm hyper-aware of the fact that time is ticking away from us, so I try to spend as much time with her as possible.
