Hey, not sure if anyone watches the Season of War channel on YT but he just posted a Seraphon vs OBR match featuring a steg chief in FoS, which I'd never considered before. The thought process made a lot of sense, wanting a bit of a tankier hero for the frontline for missions where capping objectives with heroes matters and handing out parting shot more reliably. Has anyone tried this and had success with it?
I have not played any missions that require heroes to cap objectives so I cant speak to that but the steg chief is amazing. the threat potential of a 40 block of skinks in FoS and a chief splits my opponents concentration and usually the chief clears whole flanks. for me, all the rend does more damage compared to a carno
I also haven't tried it, but the explanation does seem to make sense. I think most people tend to default away from the combat options in starborne for whatever reason.
Yeah I guess the natural inclination is "starborne is the shooting and magic faction" so the combat options don't get much consideration, myself included up until now. I've liked the steg chief in TL lists, I'll have to give it a shot in FoS
His CA is very good on large blob of skinks too. And he is a nice bearer of Serpent God Dagger. It is a shame that starborne rarely have a place for an artifact and you cannot give him Cloak of Feathers or Stegahelm.
In that list he was the general and had nimble for some added defense. That hurts summoning a bit without kroak being the general, but maybe it's worth it
Stegadons Chiefs are quite functional in FoS. I also like Ripperdactyl/Terradon Chiefs. Having heroes with high movement and better than Priest/Starpriest durability is very helpful for maintaining ranges to make use of both the FoS specific command ability and other generic command abilities abilities.
Chiefs on stegs are always a good option my friend their command ability is great to use on the skinks
yeah, it's a heavy hitter that buffs units. Nothing wrong with it... in certain lists it's almost an auto-include.
I think there were like 5 or 6 Seraphon at the hammertime 6 tts tournament last weekend and 3-4 were FoS with the stegadon chief. It's a popular build at the moment.
I think he just meant due to subfactions having mandatory artefact slots and a low amount of strong battalion options for skink list.
