As discussed with @Explodingzeb over on another thread, why does GW portrait the Fyreslayers always in de over the top orange style.

I know there are a few lodges, but is there some lore aspect that notes there dominance over the others?

My favored lodge would have to be: Greyfyrd

Because it's a tribute to the original Slayers from Warhammer Fantasy, who used to dye their hair orange:

I know they did, but is that also the lore side of it?

I think so? I can't remember reading it anywhere though. It's been a while since I read the fluff in my battletome. I have to go with Lofnir for my favorite lodge I love the ash on their hands and feet and that they're buddy buddy with Magmadroths and work for Ogors in Ghur often lol.

Well, certainly the Vostarg Lodge and their diaspora who dye their hair orange hail from the Realm of Fire where the Fyreslayer culture originated, they live in volcanoes and ride dragons with lava blood, and implant hot metal runes into their flesh, so their orange mohawks would probably represent the magma, fire and heat that is so integral to their culture.

Also the Vostarg Lodge was the first to rise to become especially powerful among all the Lodges, so a lot of Lodges would borrow those orange colours to remain on the good side of that Lodge and its descendants.

    Soulbond?

But that is a great Warscroll - fun, competent and not too OP because it requires him to lose at least half his health to become particularly scary, and it's a nice development of the Doomseekers that themselves hark back to the old Slayers of Warhammer Fantasy.

My only quibble is that I personally would have thought a Magmadroth-mounted hero would have made more sense for Lofnir because they have so many Magmadroths, and that a foot hero would have been better for a lodge less reliant on them like Hermdar, but that's only a very minor lore quibble.

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl trust me I really wanted to make him on a Magmadroth lol, but with him failing at his job I feel like he would of lost his Magmadroth privileges lol. Major typo on my part Soulbound* it's the AoS RPG game loads of fun! (Also why he's not on a Magmadroth bc I don't have one in game YET! Lol) Ty for the Feedback!

Fyreslayers are actually getting something in the upcoming Be’lakor book:
OK, it’s just updated profiles for some existing models, but the fact that GW are going to the effort to rework less often-used stuff shows they’re not about to give up on us anytime soon. I’m surprised that the Grimwrath’s getting a rework given he was a holy terror in First Edition, but maybe that’s just because he doesn’t feature that often in Hearthguard Berzerker spam lists.

All right, GW have just teased some details of the Doomseeker and Grimwrath changes.

The Doomseeker isn’t being changed that much, just had a clause introduced to make sure he can only attack again once per turn, and if he happens to be killed while his target is still alive, he gets a chance to attack his target one last time before he cops it, which is decent:

The Grimwrath gets a bigger buff in the form of being able to choose from one of six Grimwrath Oaths at the beginning of the game, which makes him pretty adaptable against different types of enemies and gives him a variety of different roles. GW previewed three of the paths on the Warhammer Community website yesterday, but today it appears someone among their crew couldn’t wait any longer and has updated the free Warscroll for the Grimwrath already:
    https://www.games-workshop.com/reso..._Belakor_Warscroll_GrimwrathBerzerker_eng.pdf

I love the oath that allows him to protect friendly foot heroes, that’s great for keeping a Forge-sitting Runemaster or deep-striking Runesmiter alive for longer.

Finally, both have received a significant buff for their Fyresteel throwing axes, which now hit and wound on 4s with a Rend of -1, more like the First Edition rules for them:

It doesn’t make that much sense to have only two models in the entire army benefit from this big buff, which makes me wonder if GW do have a Fyreslayers second wave with new Battletome planned in the near future, with one of the main changes being that the rest of the army receive this buff.

Man I think the run and charge is going to be my go to. I'm a little bummed the feel no pain isn't just there anymore but at least they kept it an option!

If you’re dreaming big then I’m dreaming huge - I’m hoping for significantly more than two new models next time we get a Battletome - more like at least 2 new units!

That would be mind blowing, especially if they can compete with Hearthguard Berserkers! Lol

An interruption to my work on Fyreslayer warscrolls to chat about the first Errata for Third Edition. Most of it is administrative changes but we've had some buffs:
    • Blood of the Berzerker now allows a Magmadroth to attack again as well as the Runefather/Runeson riding it, which is wonderfully awesome and gives us a chance of tearing Alarielle apart before she can use her ridiculous buffed healing
    • The Runic Fyrewall has now been reworked to give out Ward Saves to a nearby friendly unit, with the unit automatically getting a 6+ Ward and having a chance to get a 4+ Ward
    • The Molten Infernoth has lost the bravery buff it gives to nearby units, but deals D3 mortal wounds per 6 rolled instead of 1 if it moves at any roll of a double
    • The Battleforge is now worth spending as it gives a 6+ Ward Save to all Fyreslayer units on the battlefield for a turn, though you still have to sacrifice your +1 to prayer rolls if you do so.
The only nerf I've seen is to the Gilded Claws prayer, which now only adds 1 to a Magmadroth's to Wound rolls rather than letting it re-roll them, but I suppose this was to stop Blood of the Berzerker making it OP.

Also with the 5+ ward save artifact we can take the run and charge oath and have a better ward with the Grimwrath!

Thought I'd revive this thread with Fyreslayers getting their 3rd Edition Battletome on Saturday.

Previews for this Edition's take on them has been significantly less encouraging than those for 2nd Edition, with Slingshield Berzerkers losing an attack for little reason, double-Handaxe Berzerkers losing that fantastic re-roll to all Hit rolls that has stayed with them since 1st Edition (and replaced with an inferior bonus attack when charging) and missile Hearthguard losing their bodyguard ability. Oh, and we, the one army in the game that most needs new units and least needs new unnamed heroes, gets just a new unnamed hero model while for some inexplicable reason Nighthaunt, who have a vast array of different units, get another unit as well as a character model .

However, not all of it has been bad so far, the buff to Throwing Axes that was trialled on the Grimwrath and Doomseeker has been rolled out to all models in the army, Magmadroth armies are now a thing with Lofnir being able to spam mounted Runesons (which does still fit with lore given each Runefather has loads of Runesons, and is pretty powerful given you're spamming the character as well as the monster, and works well with Hearthguard Berzerkers who of course require heroes to trigger their 4+ Ward Save), giving us a chance against Sons of Behemat and the new silly Imperial Knight-style meta GW are encouraging. There are more chances to spread 6+ Wards across the army with the Battlesmith and the new Flamekeeper both being able to produce Ward Save auras as well as the Fyrewall from the original 3rd Edition errata (I don't know if Ward Saves stack as they did to a maximum of 3+ in Warhammer Fantasy? If they do then that could work very nicely indeed to boost our resilience). All our units can now choose to attack first in close combat against chargers (though admittedly they can only do this once per battle and can't do it when there's an enemy that hasn't charged within 3" of them - why GW? What's the point in such silly restrictions when dumbass Slaanesh can do it all the time?). Magmaroth Fyrestreams are now hugely effective against hordes, and can be charged up to inflict pain incarnate on armoured foes.

It'll be interesting to see the full rules in the book anyway so we can get the full picture. Given armies get more allegiance abilities in 3rd, there's hope that the Hearthguard's bodyguard ability may well have been made army-wide, I would love that to be true as it would help us circumvent our biggest weakness in the form of foot heroes being so vulnerable.
