Not sure how that gives you extra words. It is just a shortcut to your posts, but it doesn't mean that there are more of them.

The theory is simple... if one were to count every single word that a poster has on the forum, my signature force multiplier would be unstoppable. I still wouldn't have the most words typed directly into posts, just the overall word count record.

Anyone who has been on the forum for a little bit knows how much you love to spark a heated debate on anything :)

Authors tend to keep two seperate lists; Books written and Books sold. You're trying to combine the two into one and that'd be cheating :p

To take Rowling, she's only written like 10 books. Even if she sold billions upon billions, that wouldn't change the fact that she only wrote like 10.

Even if you are your own editor, it wouldn't change the number of books written by yourself!

True, books written and books sold... but they get paid based purely on the latter. Books sold is the only one that really matters in the end.
I am in no way trying to combine the two, I simply state that books sold > books written. Books written would be analogous to the words you physically typed into the actual message section of the post. Books sold would by analogous to total raw word count (including signature shenanigans)

I think we're starting to lose the plot though. Let's summarize:
    • I only claim that the greatest number of words found on the website would be owned by me (i.e. if one were to to physically count every word that appears on the forum, for every single member, regardless of source, my tally would be the highest)
    • I make no claim that I am not in fact using an unscrupulous method to gain "victory" (you know... agent of Chaos and all)
    • Word count itself is not actually tallied, so we're talking about an "award" based on speculation. You can speculate that you may have a higher word count than me, but you don't really know. On the other hand, something like a post count has an established quantitative number attached to it
    • I'm just pulling everyone's leg, I fully acknowledge that none of this %rap actually really matters! :hilarious:

    I'd just add one caveat;

    • only the words originally written by you count for your personal word count. So in the case of something like signatures, only the original source in your profile counts. The signature users see are nothing more than links back to that one original. Similarly, quotes don't count. Those things are all just (automatic) reproductions or links back to the original.
Aside from that, wouldn't be surprised if you were still the owner of this very important prize :p

    Also:
Most published writers pass that mark, if only cuz most of there books will at least be bought once or twice by a parent and a supportive partner or something :p. Even the horrible ones :p

So not much of a claim :p

It is your right to incorporate that caveat, just as it is my right not to. :) In truth, my theory is far more for shit disturbing purposes than a genuine or honestly held belief. Playing devil's advocate.

    I summarized it best with:

The claim is a matter of quantity. Let's say both of us decide to write novel(s)...

    • you write 100 novels and sell 500 copies (via parents, partners and friends as you suggest)
    • I write a single novel and sell a million copies
    Who wins?

The point holds: books sold > books written.

O sure, but anyone can cheat. A good advocate does it without cheating the system:p

    How is that cheating?

I openly discussed and outlined the criteria under which I would win and acknowledged the criteria under which I would not win. Since there is no officially recognized set of criteria or an officially recognized governing body to create such criteria, each of our proposed sets of criteria is equally valid. Additionally, there currently is no way to track such a metric, so it is a moot point, regardless of criteria.

If you really must assume that one specific set of criteria must be abided by (forsaking all others), we could use Lustrian/Lizardmen cultural practices/rules to make that determination. Namely, the senior Slann makes the call. And in that regard you are overruled by a comfortable factor of 7.36X. :D

Now, if word count is ever established and tracked under the "Notable Members" tab, then there will be an official set of criteria under which to determine a winner. Until then though... it is just a matter of opinion, speculation and hearsay. As it stands though, we do have accurately tracked lists for Most Messages and Most Likes! It's probably best to focus on them.

Obviously but I am bored and have nothing better to do so naturally my criteria are more valid :p
Anyway, I should probably go find dinner.

Clearly it must now be tracked too :p

Am I currently the longest running active forum member?

There are definitely a whole slew of members who joined before I did, but are any of them still active on Lustria Online? Feel free to define "active" as you will. I was thinking of an average posting rate in the vicinity of at least of 1 post a week (52 posts a year).

@Scalenex is close. @n810 has us both beat, but is (sadly :() inactive.

I don't believe anyone who joined before you posted at least once every two months without interruption for ten years straight.

We do have a lot of lurkers who mostly just read stuff. We at Lustria-Online love our lurkers. All are welcome here.

I had an interruption myself, for a couple of years (when I migrated over to Chamber of the Everchosen forum).

I'm just curious if anyone is currently active with a join date before mine (regardless of any interruptions in the past).
