Is this a generic prayer? Like arcane bolt is a generic spell?

Edit: apparently they are. Neat. Makes priests a lot more interesting.

No mention of bound endless spells, if I'm reading this right as long as a caster is alive and within 30" they maintain control of the endless spell. Which is a big change if so. Endless spells can pump out a lot of dmg especially if they are allowed to stay on the board and relevant for multiple turns (3+ turns and omg the value).

Would make sniping casters that much more important or dedicating a spell to dispell them.
Also makes bound spells slightly less unique unless they have another twist.

I bet we learn more when they do the Seraphon faction focus. Stormcast got a couple new tricks and sounds like maybe a couple more that were not previewed. They are the poster boys but that's a good sign everyone else is getting a little something.

Again I'm excited for this edition. Imo change is nice keeps things fresh.

Edit: what magic of the old ones allows me to post the picture with the text instead of a separate file!?

If a wizard can cast a spell and maintain control over it as long as they are alive. Potentially how survivable Kroak will be, might be worth taking none bound version for him to cast but stick to bound for the endless spells our more vulnerable casters plan on casting. Might not be big but could free up 10pts and we all know sometimes that's all we need to make it all fit.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if some of the endless spells see a minor change to their warscroll, but if that is happening today's preview would of been the time to show or at least mention it. Maybe a point change is coming for them tho?

Just thought of a couple more points about 3rd Edition - firstly, given that GW are going the ultra-lazy route of shoving Kruleboyz into Orc Warclans, perhaps this Edition will feature them giving more attention to existing factions than creating new ones. Certainly I’d like to finally see a second wave for Fyreslayers and Kharadron, plus plastic versions of old Finecast models for Beastmen and Skaven. If they can do it for boring Vampire Counts, they can easily do it for these far cooler factions.

Secondly I’d like to see them introduce customisable sub-factions as they’ve done in 9th Edition 40K, because that really rewards those players who have spent ages poring over and coming up with a background for their army, while at the same time still allowing less imaginative folk to use the pre-set GW-established sub-factions.

I mean, at least it means we finally no longer have an explosive growth of factions.

On the downside, it still has it's own allegiance abilities. So not sure why they bothered shoving them into Orc Warclans to begin with as effectivly we still have an extra faction now...

I know it isn't knew. I mean that IJ and BS are fullfledged factions in their own right who don't share any rules. They just also happen to have a megafaction in the big waagh that combines the two. It's essentially like Destruction has a mini-allegiance within itself in the Big Waagh which consists of the factions IJ & BS (and now the kruleboyz). In contrast our sub-factions (and most other sub-factions) usually share rules and the difference is generally minor.

Adding in the kruleboyz in this way is functionally not that different from just making them their own faction with their own dedicated tome. So while it looks like less army-bloat on paper functionally we still got an entire new army. So it just feels a bit odd, even if it isn't the first time for the orruks to get their factions combined into one tome.

Hard to believe AOS has reached 3rd edition already... still waiting on my Bretonnians to be re-added into the model line :(

Is it just me or does GW change editions as fast as most other people change their shirts? o_O

Yeah, would love to know if there's any reason for how fast they change besides selling more rulebooks. At times it almost feels like they really just want to be a videogame like LoL and put out a shiny new version every single year.

Yes, but the whole point is that Kruleboyz could have been made a separate faction in their own right (and should have been in my opinion given that apparently we’re going to be seeing a load more models for them soon, and because they’re a combi-Orc/Hobgoblin army rather than pure Orcs). Compare that to if we had just got a load more Ironjawz/Bonesplitterz where it obviously would have made sense to add them to Warclans because the rest of their range is there.

What’s more I’m concerned that if we eventually do see Ironjawz and Bonesplitterz getting more models too, the faction will start to become very bloated like Stormcast and Cities of Sigmar.

That may be what they want. Look at Gitz.
Spiders, Troggoths, and Gobbos that are essentially three separate armies cooked into one. Lumineth is also getting pretty large, and they have several factions in it that are not separated but a blend. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like Elementari/Teclian/Tyronnic allegiances at some point.
Then the rumored Dwarf Great Host or what not that's Dispossessed, Fyreslayers, and KO in a book....
If any faction would get a CoS book, it would be Orks/Orcs/Orruks. They're all mean green and worship Gork and Mork/GorkaMorka.

It looks like GW likes having big books with lots of choice so you have more reason to buy more to expand into other similar factions.

Gods I hope they don’t do this, because though it would rescue Dispossessed from the clutches of Cities of Skubmar, it would essentially be saying GW doesn’t care about Fyreslayers and Kharadron and don’t want to make any more models for them, while stupid Elves get more and more full factions of their own.

What they combine now they can undo later. A mass dwarf book imo is good. It's going to be awhile before freeslayers, old school dwarfs(if ever) and KO get new models so combining them in the mean time makes sense. Of course I would rather see them fleshed out. Same with ironjaws. I don't play that army but if I did I rather have some cruel boys I can mess around with untill new ironjaws models come out. Maybe we are looking at this wrong. They in fact did get new models which are also a sub faction which later once all is fleshed out will be separate

They're not though. You can only effectivly combined the three "subfactions" if you use the big waagh. If you just play pure ironjawz then this isn't a particularly usefull update. Or at least not any more usefull than any other update which gives new allies.

    ERRATA!

They really confused themselves with the EotG, but Bound Spells are in our hearts, like Mufasa.

They don't cost anything, and are exclusively controled by the caster that summoned them. Like I knew they were going to.

I may be way behind the times on this, but I just noticed that the Realmshaper Engine is now setup after territories have been determined. This makes me quite happy.

Ok, got my Dominion Box today.

So, let me get this straight: reinforcements now mean that battleline Stegadons can be reinforced for free once, and then reinforced again and just pay for one extra Steggy?

I HAVE TO TRACK DOWN ALL OF THOSE SCATTERED CELESTIAL STAMPEDES ON THE INTERNET RIGHT NOW.
