I too love the idea of a general doing that, part of the inspiration comes from the movie Gladiator, specifically the battle scene in the beginning. Russel crowes character has a war dog that goes into battle with him, and that dog just absolutely destroys some Gauls. The idea of War Dogs/War Wolves is just terrifying to me personally, you take such a familiar thing and turn it into a war beast? Just scary to me beyond demons and such; Id rather fight chaos than a war dog, dont ask me why, but thats just me lol And yes, definitely battleline! Been looking for a battleline troop idea for awhile, and I think this is a fun and unique kinda take? Regardless going to look awesome. As for the bases, i know we talked about this briefly and I'm still a bit conflicted. The original plan was to have them all on the same base, but I definitely see the some pro's of them being on seperate bases; whether that be 2 total bases or 3 I'm not sure. So bases I'm still not sure. Im leaning atm towards all on one base still or 2 wolves 1 base with the hunter/warrior/packmaster being on his own. Any thoughts on this from whoever is definitely welcomed, especially insight onto how game play would be depending on base set up. The original idea as as one base the Hathorian would use a ranged attack prior to a group charge, if the missle hit it would then buff the wolves damage or attack to hit, after which the charge would happen. I have all the bodies, or will, I ordered the new beastmen box specifically for this, the shaman im gonna turn into a Priestess. I really do too, it feels good to see the army finally growing a bit from a support thing for my Lumineth into an actul force of their own!
Here's a small update on the first two wolves, still need to build the packmaster to go with them (still debating on a throwing weapon for them between a Javalin, Sling or throwing axe). Using almost entirely Washes and contrast (small amounts of dry brushing otherwise) and I think they are both coming along quite nicely! Im trying to make their coats slightly different, as example the second wolf has more Cygor Brown than the first making it a bit darker. Colors used so far: white primer, Wyldwood, Cygor brown, Reikland Fleshshade, Skeleton horde, Apothecary white, Zandari Dust, Skrag Brown, and white scar (think that's everything?) I think they're coming out rather well! Especially using contrast in its intended way, and not just as a watered down wash. Hoping to finish these two today and hopefully building their Hathorian counterpart + decided on the basing situation
Not much of an intro to this one yet, but its loosely based off the World of Warcrsft Hippogryph (my favorite mount and honestly a favorite fantasy creature) Hathorian Monster, the last or second to last large kitbash for them. Needs greenstuff at this point and another look over in the morning
Thank you! I think so as well, I'm thinking of having Kragno's human half under this ones hooves if I'm honest lol bloodied and such. Still debating on a base size, i really have no interest in ever playing destruction, so I'm kinda tempted to go for the 120mm oval base opposed to the normal size base for Kragnos, we shall see. Lots if projects per usual but working through them. Really wanted to build this one, now i have greenstuff work to do, need to rewatch some feather making vids
So, WIP Wednesday went fairly well! Got a decent amount of work done on the Hippogryph! Added the milliput on the chest over the aluminum foil and akso on the back where the wings connect. After it cured I began adding greenstuff. Originally I was going to do feathers for the chest, but i was having some real difficulties with it. I think it may have been my greenstuff consistency, but also probably my lack of know how with feathers, regardless the feathers weren't working out. Instead I decided to try making some barbed leather or whatever its called, I think it came out fairly well! At this point its cured, so cant do anything about it, but i maybe should have build the leather in strips instead of carcing from a GS slab... ah well, try it next time, eh? I did smooth it out, so there shouldn't be any/very few finger prints (I'm sure i missed at least one lol) Anyway, my Hippogryph is coming along Im debating a rider, but i kinda like the idea of a guant Hippogryph on its own base Let me know what you think, especially about the greenstuff work! I am considering adding small balls to the holes in the leather that sre there now.
Might redo the leather barding, I dont mind it, it looks war torn as of now... but debating if I should try again for a cleaner look
TBH, doesn't look that war torn. Looks like he's been using it (rather than brand new.) I think it will look awesome once painted, Suds.
Thanks man! We shall see what I do, still debating redoing it Here's a Video of it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CP8fHg2HQ3A/?utm_medium=copy_link Tempted to try and do this:
This is another possibility for a Final-ish build using a spare chest armor from a Spirit of the Mountain. I am already planning to make rope/leather connector points for the leg shields and such so connecting this wouldn't be hard to add. I also jeed to create a blanket/saddle to connect the two side drapedy-do's on it's side. Im also debating a rider, whether that be an Hathorian Priestess or an Ilithian ally/Lumineth hero I'm unsure. Really just a side thought for now as I figure out this other stuff first.
That would be awesome, if you able to do it like that! The chest piece works great as well. Grrr, Imrahil
Thanks! I think im going to keep the armor with the leather barding under it. Need to make leather straps and such now for where everything connects. I am slowly leaning towards adding a rider, Aelven or Hathorian I am still debating, if I do it at all. I do wish Lumineth used some larger oval bases like the Seraphon do
Oh man! I am so excited to get this primed and painted... soonish! My Ilithian War Hippogryph (loosely based off the worldofwarcraft Hippogryph) nearly done, I have a few decisions to make before I continue however. The biggest choices are: Do I have a rider riding it (which presents its own challenges), a hero/solider on the base with it, or do I keep it as a lone monster unit? Also, base size? If I make this just a custom unit then base size doesnt totally matter. However, if I wanted to use it for like a Wind Aelemental stand-in then it'd need to be on a 60mm, which with building the base up could be accomplished. I Lumineth used a large oval base lol But until then, what's new with the model since last time? LOTS of greenstuff! I made all the leather barding for the armor and such to rest on and connecting all the various armor parts. I just love how it looks. Now to decide some big choices.... any thoughts appreciated!
So, fiddling with some base mock ups, this is the first using a Lumineth Sentinel (from DireChasm). Doing a Hathorian isn't out if the question, but I am slowly leaning towards a Lumineth 'rider' and not a Hathorian one; a possible new Hathorian kitbash may come soon instead if I go Lumineth. I am considering having 1 or 2 dead Ogors on the base with arrows in them/ ripped apart. We shall see how this plays out, lots of rain past few days and likely today, so no priming yet.
DUDE!!! He is big. I had no idea he was that big So much awesomeness. The Ogors pierced with arrows is very funny and a great addition to it Keep up the great work. Grrr, Imrahil
Ha, yeah! Its pretty big lol going to be a blast to paint, though still unsure totally what color still, though I have a few ideas. I know the armor will be like my Vanari units (black and orange). Im excited about this small diorama idea for sure, and yesss lol the pierced ogors is going to be great, one is even decapitated lol Heres a picture of the bases basic mock up + a look at the custom helm for the archer. A lot of custom work going into this one, honestly this could be one of my best works... if I don't fuck it up lol I am really trying to push myself with this, and am already especially with the greenstuff work. I am still thinking of also adding a little bit of cork for some added elevation possibly or varried ground a bit, we'll see. Still need to add the arrow shafts to the Ogor's back/chest and add fletching to them + greenstuff parts where there are large gaps. Also need to clean parts of all the models still, trying to take my time with this one. Also a picture of my Lumineth and showing the size if this compared to Celennar and the Alarith Spirits, its pretty big; though happy the base is smaller than Teclis. Looking forward to making a custom warscroll and making this my Vanari General. So yes, my Lumineth have stolen this from my Hathorians. Fear not, I have a Giant kitbash on the horizon for them.
