Sigiriya in Sri Lanka. This used to be a palace on top. It has a really interesting history. Also contains some of the worlds oldest grafitti. Halfway up the rock is a stairway to the top. All that remains are two giant lion paws beside the stairs. Originally when built there was a lion's head and access to the top was gained by entering the lion's mouth and climbing the stairs.
In a nutshell.... One Sinhalese prince usurped the throne from his brother. Brother ran off to southern India. The usurper, now king eventually became paranoid that his brother would raise an army and come back and retake the throne. So he built the palace on top of Sigiriya figuring that he would be safe up there. Sure enough brother in India raises an army and returns to take his throne back. The king, instead of staying on his rock palace, comes down to lead his army against his brother. However his elephant got stuck in the swamps nearby and he was killed. Usurped brother retakes the throne.
That looks like a good place to hide from the zombie apocalypse. Or form the power base for a new Seraphon kingdom.
