You've got some interesting theories about linguistics there, friend, but I guess I'll leave it alone since you''d have to get something written up about my motives and that certainly wouldn't lead anywhere pleasant.

its not a theory it's basic etymology. we tend to keep a fairly good handle on our language and what it means/ were it comes from
The term man (from Proto-Germanic *mann- "person") and words derived from it can designate any or even all of the human race regardless of their sex or age. In traditional usage, man (without an article) itself refers to the species or to humanity (mankind) as a whole. The Germanic word developed into Old English mann.

and you didn't leave it alone you brought it up in a snarky way

Oh, a Slann on Stegadon would be so awesome! I doubt they would actually bring back Mazdamundi, but it sounds like they're definitely bringing back the idea of a Slann with a mount, which would be something our army could really use. Of course, it just puts the poor Troglodon in an even weirder place...

Of course, if Lord Kroak can just will himself back into a physical body it's certainly possible he could use the Starborne Azyr magic-shenanigans to summon Maz's soul back too. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that...

But come on, GW! Bring Kroq-Gar out of stasis already! :p

I just hope he has a different spell and command ability than the normal Slann. Comet's Call being on three war scrolls is a bummer as it is.

I would love to see Maz be reborn/coalesce, since he gave his life in the World that Was. Along side Nakai appearing out of a random jungle somewhere, while Kroq-Gar wakes up to start the Murder Machine. Mind whirring and hopes rising.

Tehenhuain coming back, riding atop Sotek through the stars....

But honestly, the Slann heros and Oxyotl would make the most sense.

Oxyotl would also be amazing! A sneaky, teleporting character assassin who could fade out of combat similar to how the new Lumineth heroes can just run away from fights would be a very useful tool. Give him some sort of ability to buff other Chameleon Skinks and you could make an extremely deadly deepstriking combo that could be used in Coalesced as well as Starborne. Some other good ones I could think of off the top of my head:

Tichi-Huichi with faster Skink Cold One riders with ranged attacks to give us some ranged cavalry.

A reincarnated Nakai, or "Spirit of the Jungle" Kroxigor hero that makes Kroxigors battleline and is an actually good beatstick foot hero, similar to the Light of Eltharion.

Tehenhauin as a buffed-up unique Skink Priest with some sort of aura buff instead of just command abilities. Maybe give him an ability that gives him more or better buff auras depending on how many sacrifices to Sotek (units killed near him) he accumulates. This would also give be a good chance to bring back Jungle Swarms and Red-Crested Skinks. Also give him a unique prayer that either does damage to the enemy like Blood Boil or gives the effect of Bless or Curse to multiple units instead of just one.

Itzi-Bitzi: A combat-oriented Skink Chief with the Piranha Blade (maybe a chance for an insta-kill like the Serpent God's Dagger) and the Incantation of Xetlipocutzl as a once-per-battle ability that works like the Lumineth shutdown spell or Be'Lakor's special ability.

This is actually from cities of the flame, an adventure suppliment released alongside the core book last year, it’s one of my favorite adventures from that book.

Stars and Scales does place that Slann into a specific constellation that gets mentioned, though I can’t remember which one it is off the top of my head. It’s definitely not Chotek’s Feather because that’s the one confirmed to be the Jade Temple’s faction, and is basically the Skink equivalent to Koatl’s claw. The skink in charge foresaw Morathi’s rise and subtly protected the city, shifting events to ensure they had her favor when she claimed it (while Fangs of Sotek lived within the city and subtly tried to keep her from taking it, only giving up in the weeks before she arrived and leaving out of fear she might give them retribution for that whole “blaining khainites for their assassinations” thing).

On the skink gender stuff though; the character talked about there first appeared in their adventure suppliment Refuges of the Realms, and features a couple times in the adventures part of Stars and Scales. I think the way they handle her gender makes sense and basically just gives textual representation to something I’d seen people talk about before when it came to Seraphon and gender- namely that coexisting with mortal races that have gender as a concept is probably going to get skinks thinking about it, as they do for a lot of similar concepts. Fangs of Sotek are even specifically noted as taking on traits of the cultures they live within to make people more comfortable with them, it makes sense that’d include their conceptions of identity.

though it also gives room for it to just be something applied to her by the mortal races, seeing this skink in a matronly role and going “ah. A lady, to be sure” and her just going “ok sure I guess” and using it when speaking in mortal tongue because they kept using it to refer to her. A lot of room for fun stuff with the concept! Especially when giving player options, it implicitly says “yes your skink can be a lady if you want” to show off a lady skink, even if she doesn’t actually entierly understand what that means.

Overall I just adore the book, I’d recommend it for the lore alone! It basically features a nu-Oxyotl, a chameleon skink trapped in a Tzeench spell that looped the same day over and over, respawning daemons slaughtering his entire warhost while he remained hidden and waited for the perfect opportunity to strike, knowing his survival would be wasted if he acted too early.

It also features a Kroxigor who survived by just bashing everything it saw for centuries straight, fighting to defend itself and the echoes of the long dead skinks trapped in an eternal performance of their last moments, not realizing he was the only real survivor left.

    Who couldn’t love this guy?

Honestly, i wouldn't read too much into it.
There were Lizardmen, there were Beastmen (which is what? a pejorative about male?), there were skaven that in the lore were addressed as ratmen... in 40k we have the Imperium of Man.
man / men is a term that, while gender-related, when inserted in a general identification loses its gender prerogative.
MANkind and huMANity contain the word man, but are pretty much inclusive.
You could debate that those "generic" terms are male-based, implying a overall superiority and control by the men over culture and society.... but that argument doesn't hold much water, really.

    let's pick Mankind, Man, Woman.

in italian it's Umanità, Uomo, Donna. The generic term doesn't include a reference to the gender.
    French: Humanitè, Homme, Femme.
    Spanish: Humanidad, Hombre, Mujer

i don't think we can support the hypothesis that anglo-saxon culture is patriarchal, while latin culture (including italy, the home of catholic church) is much more open minded since the last couple of millenia.
