If we think back to the lore they presented some time ago, (Draconith want to venture out to find their culture and meaning.. stuff...) I would guess it makes sense if they would ally with all/most Order factions. I like the design, but I would deffinitly try to give Karazai (the redish one) a horn on his nose, making him more aggressive. "... On the tabletop, the Draconith tower over the battlefield. Given their size and the huge amount of detail to work with, Krondys and Karazai will serve as extraordinary centrepieces for an army, and as fantastic painting projects in their own right. And have no doubt the return of such powerful figures will have massive, far-reaching effects in the Mortal Realms ..." -WH Community Post That reads like 450 - 500+ points to me...
All this talk of dragons and I still can't move past that clear silhouette of a coatl in in the artwork for Kragnos. Fingers crossed we get our own monster centerpiece when it's our next turn for an update.
not really. all of our monsters (minus the glorious dread saurian) are not exactly what I would call centerpieces. especially not in any monster-heavy list. and none of them (-dread) are close to the level of presence that kroak or these dragons have.
Yeah, our monsters have gotten smaller relative to everything else that's come out recently. Stegs and bastis are like poodles compared to some of the newer stuff
This was true a few years ago, but there's been some pretty serious scale creep in AoS since the early days. Carnos, Stegs, Bastis and especially Kroak are all great models, but nowadays they don't really hold a candle to how striking and imposing figures like Morathi or Teclis are. Kroak comes close, but he doesn't quite fill the 500-700 point monster-shaped hole in my army. Even if massive, single-model point-sinks haven't historically been competitive, they're a lot of fun and look great on the table.
If this doesn't happen, then I guess we'll be left to convert our own coatls and run them as a dragon - I mean draconith, lol. An official coatl model would be great seeing as we didn't really get any new models for our 2.0 refresh - aside from the realmshaper engine which, IMHO, isn't that impressive of a model. Here's hoping!
Depends on whether the Draconith can be allied in or not. They'll need a specific rule to allow it as I doubt they'll fit in under 400 points. Otherwise I would be very keen to do this - which models do you think make a good base for a coatl? I was thinking the new Kruelboyz Vulcha was looking dinosaurian enough to be converted into our army. Maybe not as a coatl, but could be a cool proxy for something else.
Going off what's in the article, I'm certain at least one of the dragon profiles will be available as allies with a Gotrek-like rule (only aaly allowed), but nothing is ever certain with GW lol. As for what models, I'd say the cockatrice is the closest to a coatl but it's a Finecast model and i don't think it's big enough. After that either anything with large, feathery wings like the tauralon, griffon, or phoenixes (just to name a few), which would leave you to sculpt the serpentine body, or vice versa, something with a mostly serpentine body like the black dragon or Morathi, leaving you to sculpt the wings. Comes down to what and how much you want to sculpt, but most importantly, how much $$ you wanna drop on it. Morathi's size and overall look would probably be the most accurate in scale, but she's a pricey model
Warning i don't know the scale of theese models but maby the Blood viper endless spell or whatever it's called could make a nice coatl
A random picture from the internets to show you the scale.Probably a bit small if you'd want it to be behemoth sized.
Maybe a kitbash between Morathi, the bloodwrack viper for the head, and then some big feathery wings, like a lord of change or something
