What exactly does roar saying that someone can't issue or receive orders mean? Because they specifically said order not command, which makes me think that orders would include anything such as Finest Hour.
Unfortunate. I don't get why they worded it as "cannot issue or receive orders" then, but it makes much more sense that it only applies to commands.
The preliminary data really seems to back up that unkillable god models are the new meta. Archaon and Be'Lakor are at the top, with Morathi and Giants at 3 and 4.
I had my first game in 3 Ed today and my friend threw an Archi to me. I managed to roll a 12 in turn 2 with my Knights and they damaged him very seriously. Buffed them with Hand Of Glory, Serpent Staff, Scar-Vet CA and my Basti killed him in T3 (remember he is a Demon so Basti+Priest and damage 3 is )
In case yall didn't watch that new episode of the podcast with erta and Lizard wizard they have a legit way of handling gods. Ignore em. And stop throwing big monsters at em. None of our units outside myself have enough hp to tango with em to begin with
Yep exactly, very much so. Usually it means they will sink a lot of points into the god, means you clean up the rest of the army and feed them screens in the meantime until you are ready to go for the god or carry on avoiding it. One model can't sit on 3-4 objectives all at once.
im not sold on this. the boards are smaller, the gods are faster and if the opponent wants to they will get his morathi and archaon exactly where they want it to be to mess up your day. heck even gotrek is getting stuck in on turn 2 now in the new format. starborne might be able to pull this off with summoning and teleports, but i dont see coalesced doing it at all.
Skinks are faster than gotrek our knights are faster than gotrek I sure as hell am faster than gotrek. I genuinely see gotrek more than any other "god" every other day at my local gw shop
Apparently Gotrek in an Idoenth list is a new thing a lot of people are trying. But we also don't have much of a problem dealing with Idoneth, so I'm not too worried about that. However, while Archaon might not be that popular in casual games due to how expensive his model is, he's becoming very popular in the tournament scene from what people are saying. So if you're going to want to go to a competitive event, you're probably going to want to have a plan to deal with him. Same with Morathi, since the only way to deal with her quickly is to deal damage her turn as well as yours. Sons of Behemat are also really popular now, so in general having a way to either outmaneuver or focus fire a big, 20-30 wound model is going to be a requirement to win tournaments. I think that Thunder Lizards can do this, especially with heavy firing from Stegadons and Bastiladons combined with magic from Kroak or a Slann. Starborne obviously has the Skink blob+magic combo, and will have an easier time throwing screens at the big guys to at least keep them tied down while your other stuff shoots at them.
Idk about you but SoB is the most enjoyable kaiju battles you could ever ask for. They wanna throw 3 megagargants at me? I'll throw 3 dreads and a slann with Chaffee it'll be a fucking party of epic proportions
Hence why I said feed them screens, in the few games of AOS3 I've played so far that tactic has worked (with thunderlizard). Or id you really want to play nasty, take shackles and just plop them in front of your important stuff
quite interesting, with the buffs to monsters i thought fec might be doing better, especially gristlegore and their terrorgheist spam as for archaon him being competitive was already confirmed, a monstrous profile and being so damn fast means he can delete anything on an objective when he touches it. if you want him dead, your best beat is still probably to bubble wrap your killy stuff and then counter punch with it once he wipes out your chaff.
im bad at recalling except general area guessing but doesnt archaon do less damage on average than gotrek?
iirc he very well might, but notably archaon has a few tricks that honestly blow gotrek out of the water. for one slayer of kings is an ever present threat that can just wipe something immediately, dorghars 3 heads are a good way of spitting out mortal wounds and archaon has access to a pretty good spell lore. notably mask of darkness means he can pop up where he chooses
I actually played vs Archaon for the first time ever over the weekend. Now, we both made lots of play mistakes, I notably miscalculated his first turn alpha strike charge range in Host Arcanum Tzeentch. But even with that, his output was underwhelming vs my TL list. He basically killed 8 saurus knights before my friend conceded at the top of turn 3. He dealt 4 wounds to my EotG which I mostly healed off with an emerald lifeswarm. His highest rend is 2 which I was honestly surprised by, so between the steg crest, all out defense, and scaly skin damage reduction the engine held its ground pretty easily. I could see starborne being more challenging, but there we can at least summon a constant stream of skinks to keep him busy or clog up the board to make it hard for him to land where he wants.
what buffs was your opponent running on him? there is some spell lores and faction traits that work with him really well. that said im not too surprised he got snubbed, scaly skin is a huge defensive buff
