White Dwarf preview Looks like the battletome update is going to be a little more in depth than just path of glory! https://www.warhammer-community.com...depta-sororitas-sanctuary-in-white-dwarf-469/
-Edit- Didn't see the previous message. Ah well. Looks like we're the next Tome Celestial. Thunderquake is back in a new form, a replacement of Primeval Domain, and lore. https://www.warhammer-community.com...depta-sororitas-sanctuary-in-white-dwarf-469/
Apparently we're also a part of 40K now. That or the adepta soritas have build a sanctuary in the mortal realms Such bad title.
It looks like there will be some lore, or a story, about the Realm of the Heavens. Next is the Seraphon lore and updates (fingers crossed). Then "The Incandescent Sphere" which must be the Seraphon Path to Glory. Finally, is a Seraphon painting guide. Here is the page that GW teased. It's readable if you enlarge it. Pretty standard intro and fluff for our lizards in AoS.
Awesome! So Thunderquake is coming back as a core battalion and they're replacing the awful Coalesced terrain rule! Hopefully the new rules are good!
As much as I do not like Additional Army specific Core Battalions (just reading a problem removed by 3.0 IMHO) I am also glad they chose Thunderquake to transition. Monsters and monster characters galore.
it's already practically useless. it can only come into effect in about half the games you play and of those even less of them are game where it matters. they could make a ability that hurts us like the old clod blooded but im remaining optimistic that they have any idea of what they are doing.
I'm glad we're getting some love with new lore and potential narrative play rules! Only thing that has me a little worried is Tunderquake becoming a Seraphon Core Battalion, which from what I've heard of the new battletome for SCE, their army core battalions are not any better than the general battalions in the GHB (don't really remember what was said about the Orruk ones, but I don't remember hearing much hype for those so might be in the same boat). I'm looking forward to see what they do, but I'm definitely keeping my expectations a bit low for now.
Thunderquake? Like the old warscroll battalion? We can already see what is going to include. Wondering what will Primeval Domain replacement will look like; never felt lilke it was good or bad. StD core battalions are quite good, so let's wait.
Ah, this is the first I've heard about the StD core battalions so that assuages my unease a little lol
Tbh, I don't remember them atm, but both (two) of them are One Drop and had one extra bonus that was not extra artifact. the first one needed at least 1 Leader and 4 Troops, up to 4 additional Troops and 1 Behemoth, the other needed 2 Varanguards and up to, iIrc, another 3 Varanguards. I don't remember the ones for SoB, but they are SoB so they needed Battalions anyway. If that's the case, we can hope to see Thunderquake as another One Drop + other, and if it so, we can expect to see it as the beginning of a trend for future Celestial Tomes.
People are getting their copies of the new white dwarf today and there’s a few screenshots floating around of our tome celestial: The new primeval domain makes all terrain partially or wholly in our territory have the Deadly Mysterious scenery rule for all non-coalesced near them, and the Mystical scenery rule for all coalesced near them Also gives us two mount traits to chose from for Stegadon, Carnosaur and Troglodon. Coalesced get Beastmaster, which allows a once per battle choice to either be Swift or Savage during your hero phase and lasts until the next hero phase. Swift lets you run and charge that turn, Savage adds 1 to the attack characteristics of all the mount’s melee weapons. Starborne get Celestial Destruction, which gives an additional option for a Monsterous rampage to the unit, which is basically an upgraded version of Stomp. You a roll a dice for every enemy unit (even monsters, unlike stomp) within 6 inches, add 1 to the roll of any of the units that have the chaos keyword, and then on any 5+ you deal d3 mortal wounds to the unit.
Beastmaster is rather dissapointing, not a fan of once per battle abilities regardless, but this doesn't even provide something new. I mean the two options are basicly a carnosaur's blood frenzy and a stegadon's command ability. The effect themselves aren't terrible, but couldn't they come up with something new? Celestial destruction is decent enough, mostly cuz of how it interacts with the rule of one and effectivly gives us 2 stomps. That's something I guess. Still a tad underwhelming for mount traits, especially if that's all we get. As for primeval domain. It's better I guess. And I assume the more competitive minded players are probably reasonably happy with this. But I can't say it's exactly an exciting rule. I do hope there's more in there.
Think that's it from a rules perspective but there's some fluffy stuff i'm sure. It feels very in line with the other white dwarf stuff. Very light touch, nothing truly horrible but nothing truly amazing either.
