And another 20 point increase on salamanders? I get it, it's a revenge nerf for all the complaining that people were doing before. But salamander spamming isn't really a thing anymore is it?
The battle scroll thing just has the new Point values, it doesn't say whether something went up or down. I can go and check when I'm at home this evening, but I'm curious if anyone knows off the top of their head call the other factions fared?
ripper chief went down 5 ripperdactles went down 10 teradons went down 10 sun cannon went up 15 ark went down 20 salamanders went up 20. no other changes.
i blame thehonestwargamer for this one. hes the only person ive heard saying salamanders are still too cheap. On a separate issue, i like how they want people to play the other bastiladon. Ark bastiladon is garbage, i wouldnt play it at 100 pts.
eh more or less the same. a lot of points reductions that don't matter and don't change anything and a few 10-20 points increases to problem units like salamanders that won't change anything either because nothing else was buffed enough to take their place.
I Saw some spamming salamndres list in dracothion tail on this forum, even one with Gotrek ! I think it's a good thing! And birds are now playable, I like this FAQ!
Plus, Salamanders are one of the few non-hero/non-behemoth Seraphon units with rend. But, Salamanders and Kroxigor are practically the same cost now.
yep it just means people will still use them because rend is mandatory in the game now and it's one of our only options.
Welcome to the Bruce Quarrie Effect, where if you play one of the armies GW likes, i.e. High Elves and diaspora, Dark Elves and diaspora, Vampire shit, Stormcast or Warriors of Chaos and diaspora, you get consistently strong rules and units distributed like sweeties. On the other hand, woe betide you play an army that is recognised as great much of the time by everyone other than GW, because if you do they will be sure to hit you with consistently substandard rules to persuade you to play the armies they do like, so they can eventually get rid of the ones they don't like under the guise of them 'not selling well' or 'not being copyrightable', as they have already done with Bretonnia and Tomb Kings.
165 pt ark bastiladon I think will get more play. I like it more and more now. 165pt monster mud pit that can be teleported around in starborne?
I guess I can see that as a possibility. I still think it's interesting that the two versions of the same model are 85 pts different. Now that GW is potentially updating warscrolls through Battlescroll, perhaps armies will see actual warscroll changes?
Agreed, I think in a Fangs of Sotek list with reinforced Skink battleline, you can now make a cost-efficient list with Terradon/Ripperdactyl Riders and the Ark of Sotek. Send the Ark of Sotek down the main highway with the Skinks in front of it because the Ark has a 3" melee range -- and let the riders secure easy objective goals with their 16" move range. Until they do something to change the wounds on Saurus Warriors, I can't really constitute playing a Saurus-based army all that often.
Well, now this lists will drop everything else to leave as much salamanders as possible. I remember bringing 12 - that was spamming. 3x2 is normal backbone of the army. Birds are not playable. They are killed by this edition rules and weakness of their warscrolls. They needed to lose like 10-20 more points to be something to look at. Corrected. Ok, we have razordons too and maybe dread saurian. I can't recall anything else with rend more than -1 in our book. You pay 165 pts for a unit which deals literally 0 damage. It is not a choice between Solar Engine vs Snake. It is a choice between Snake and any normal unit. Heck, I will take 20 skinks and they will deal more average damage through the game then ark of sotek. If this strategy was effective in any way, a lot of people would utilize it way before this updates. Rippers and Ark warscrolls are simply weak and terradons still cost too much, considering how they were hit by coherency changes. If you used a unit of 3 before, nothing much would change for you.
While damage is not comparable, the point is objectives and sticking around to be able to complete tactics. 20 skinks will die/be completely neutered in 1 round of combat. the bastiladon if you play it right and buff it shouldnt die the whole game. and if it does, then your opponent wasted a lot of time and damage to do it. It is just a different usage of a unit than trying to line up and get the most damage out of every piece. if you have 1800 pts of great damage/units, a 165 undying monster is a pretty great way to use the last 165.
And not only that, but we have far better Behemoth units to field in that slot. I understand that I maintain my biases based on predominantly playing a saurus-heavy Thunder Lizards army, but I'll sooner drop points elsewhere to keep the solar engine in my lists. Playing it right and buffing it won't stop it from dropping from mortal wound spam. If that's what's supposed to prevent your opponent from taking on the rest of your army, any savvy opponent is going to ignore it in favour of your expensive glass cannons.
Well, it depends how you measure buffing the Terradon/Ripperdactyl riders. Respectfully, I think they aren't as bad as you might think for a total of 105 points now. Since the riders benefit from the Skink keyword, I think they'll see play in my list more than my knights, who for whatever reason have the same wound characteristic as Saurus Guard, which is something I find absurd. Run & shoot with the bolas can be an effective strategy or you can kamikaze them, but the point is to draw the opponent's attention away from your larger force objective capture.
