A recent post by Nightbringer got me wondering. Who only plays 8th Edition on this site? (Anyone from the Eighth Edition for Life thread is welcome to weigh in! ) SO FAR: 1. Sacred Knights of the Divine Order (Those playing exclusively WFB 8th) Myself, @NIGHTBRINGER, @The Great White Lizard, @Kblock @Krox_v.2 @Karnus 2. Inner Circle Knights (Those whose primary game is WFB 8th but play other games as well) @ASSASSIN_NR_1 @Explodingzeb @BrotherSutek @shattershell @Knoffles 3. Questing Knights (Those who play 8th edition equally among many other games) @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl, @Neersh @Lord-Marcus @Blastoize @Warden 4. Knights (Those who only dabble in 8th edition) @Erta Wanderer @Padre
I'm looking to try 7th and possibly 6th, and I'm not against trying AOS if one of my friends absolutely wants to (as long as I can play my lizards), but in practice I only play 8th - but with slightly modified rules, possibly with more changes to come.
Obviously me! I haven't played a different wargame in over a decade. I started with 40k, moved to WFB 7th edition and finally settled on 8th edition upon its release.
So should we consider those that only play 8th edition to be the Inner Circle of the Knights of the Eight?
Then this elite club might end it's existence, for you are no longer exclusively playing 8th edition Grrr, Imrahil
Indeed... exactly my point. How many will be left after TOW? How many will shift over? Will I be the last surviving member of the Inner Circle of the Knights of Eight? Will I fall to TOW (probably not, but you never know, anything is possible)?
After a long hiatus, I think it's long past time for me to return to LO. Eight Edition WHFB still is, and remains, the only wargame I'll play. My main problem as of late is finding people to play it with, unfortunately. I have several friends who know the rules, and one who's working on a TK army, but going is slow. Recently I've been getting back into the game and expanding my Beastmen collection, hopefully soon I'll be able to play full 2000 point games.
Excellent, welcome to the Inner Circle of the Knights of Eight! @NIGHTBRINGER will be happy to have another coming to the table.
I was told to visit this thread because I play the 8th edition, so here I am. What's going on there? I'm just an inconspicuous skaven ... daemon ... no, lizard, yeah-yeah, lizardman wanderer. Can't say I'm in the inner circle though, as I do play all sorts of other wargames (40k, epic, bfg, blood bowl, dystopian wars, and whatnot) too. Playing mostly with a couple of friends, casual games, lore- and memelists, but playing to win. Sometime in the early 2000's I did participate in some local tournaments to play with randos, but it very quickly became apparent that it was not the scene for me because of some of the... less fun random personalities encountered there. Been playing through the WHFB editions since the 4th edition, and in my opinion the 8th is the best thing that has happened to the rules in all that time. By no means do I think it's perfect though, looking forward with hopeful dread to The Old World arriving in the future.
Welcome fellow Knight! You are forgiven I hear you. I have a couple of friends I play with, because I play to have a fun game with my friends. I have specifically stopped playing with certain people because I just end up totally annoyed as they have argued every rules point throughout the game! Yeah, 8th isn't perfect but it's good. Hopefully TOW isn't a travesty, but we'll always have the 8th either way.
I do play 8th Edition, of course, and enjoy it, so that'd make me a Knight of the Realm, but the flaws of 8th are significant enough in my eye for me not to devote to it entirely and in its purest form, and my additional interests in sci-fi, Middle Earth and ancient history also distract me into playing and theorying 40K, In Her Majesty's Name, Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game and SPQR respectively, so alack, I shall not reach Grail Knight. Perhaps I'd be a Questing Knight, in that I am always questing to find and/or devise rules to get 8th Edition just that bit closer toward covering its flaws and achieving perfection...
I feel we should have a list of the Knights of Eight Those playing exclusively WFB 8th Those whose primary game is WFB 8th but play other games as well Those who play 8th edition equally among many other games Those who only dabble in 8th edition Maybe have different titles... Sacred Knights of the Divine Order Inner Circle Knights Questing Knights Knights etc.
Good point. I like it (much like I like anything which creates on 8th Edition on this forum). I have an idea. I'll edit my first post to cover the categories, but we should agree on them first. So far we have Inner Circle Knights (only play the 8th) and Knights (play 8th edition, but also play other game styles). What would the others ones be?
I listed a couple of quick ideas off the top of my head in the post above. Those are pretty much the four categories I can think of, unless you have a founding members category (which I don't particularly like because it is exclusionary).
Ah I see, they correspond to each other. Cool! So (for anyone who has already weighed in on this thread), which knight are you? 1. Sacred Knights of the Divine Order (Those playing exclusively WFB 8th) 2. Inner Circle Knights (Those whose primary game is WFB 8th but play other games as well) 3. Questing Knights (Those who play 8th edition equally among many other games) 4. Knights (Those who only dabble in 8th edition) I'll then update my first post.
