I see many tomes are getting new versions for AoS3.0. Does anyone think Seraphon are due for an update soon? I haven't actually bought the current one yet, just collecting models for now. Hate throwing down the cash for rules before I can put them on the table anymore.
well we didn't get a first edition tomb and where the last people to get a 2nd edition tomb. it was a 6 year wait so really it could be anything from this year untill 2026
The current seraphon book works into aos 3 and are doing really well. Which means they are likely to still sell the models and as such probably not much incentive to update for a while. There are many other armies that i would think are likely to get updates and truly need them. Even slaanesh being very recent could do with a new book.
Given that our tome seems to be widely perceived as too strong, I can see us getting one some time next year as a way of quelling popular demand for a rebalance. Hopefully it's not a "revenge tome" like the aforementioned Hedonites.
This is why I'm fine with the new book coming out later, as long as it doesn't happen right at the end of 3e like it did with 2e. I'd rather we had faded from the limelight for a while and hopefully get a book that's strong and internally balanced. Our current book is good, but it's because about 1/4 of our units are very good, 1/4 are decent, and the other 1/2 are bad. If we were to get a new book now, we'd probably get few if any of the buffs some units need while losing a lot of the abilities our good stuff relies on and probably getting warscroll nerfs to said good units. Whereas if our book come out say in 2024, at which point we'll probably have over a dozen other armies much more powerful than us, maybe GW will give us a good 3e book like Stormcast, Idoneth or Orruks.
Yeah, too often the fixes are: Good units: this is too good, let's nerf it Bad units: nah, they're fine, they just suffer the good units. It has happened in the past, it's happening right now, it will happen again.
Honestly, probably not until we get near the end of 3th edition. Our current tome is still fairly "new", and due to our large unit variety as well as our focus on shooting magic & summoning we're pretty much guaranteed to always have at least one vaguely decent list, even if it is just some weird degenerate list, like the skink spam we had at one point. So we're not going to be a priority to begin with. Honestly, the only reason I could see us getting an update soon would be if they decided to update some of the goofier models & take advantage of the hype to release a tome alongside it (why Kroak wasn't released alongside more seraphon stuff is a mystery....)
