It seems like the guard are staying, the oldblood and eternity warden stay but it feels like the sunblood is out of production now along with the razordons. I'm guessing they will come back but at a later date perhaps?
I just had a thought, if we're getting Skink Priests squatted from the line then I wonder what they'll do with the Starblood Stalkers. They'll still be in the book since they're still in production and none of the underworlds bands have ever been squatted even after going OOP, but Kixi-Taka is basically just a skink priest and has a near identical profile. Warscroll updates to underworld warbands in the recent battletomes have generally made them more in line with whatever their equivalent unit in the army is, just with some kind of semi-useful buff over them, so I wonder if he'll get upgraded to full Starpriest status or just stay the way he is and become the only roundabout way to access some of the utility tools the old Skink Priest used to give us
Yeah, my #1 question right now is how they are going to differentiate the regular Kroxigors from the Warspawned. From the reveal pics, it looks like a weapon divergence maybe? If so, I'm definitely using the longer croc face for both versions. I mean, they aren't Lizardigors, right?
maybe Eternity no, they updated the store and delete a lot of minis but he continues that's all that's left
Anyone else gonna refer to the new aggradon's as "feather dusters"? Their overall design is pretty sweet...but those tails...they just make me chuckle. I'm pretty meh on all of this. I'm not a big fan of the shield redesigns - too star-lizard for my taste. That may be intentional tho if the Old World versions will have the more classic LM design. Someone else mentioned their take on the krox as them feeling a bit "off" and I completely agree. I think it's mostly because we got used to the Total War chonky versions which were great & distinct. The war-spawn ones are interesting, but still prefer the chunky Bois lol. The skink cav mounts could be a bit more dynamic IMO. Right now they all look like the same mini, or an ever-so-slightly different version, just painted differently. GW loves their tactical rocks (and now we have tactical tree trunks given the new scar-vet on aggro & krox bases lol), they should've thrown one or two under the skink cav and had them jumping over it or something...I'm just nitpicking at this point. All that out of the way, I am glad we're getting new models for some of our more iconic units and hope they spark new interest in the lizzies. Personally, I'm good on all these and probably won't get anything (I've been priced out of WH at this point lol). I have STLs too for anything I need/want and I'll just wait till these finally drop to have STL creators drop their own versions of the new units/models (which some creators do a better job of IMO )
I like the idea of having more elite 3 model cavalry, though I'm not a big fan of having a musician in small units like that. They look nice and chunky too. I also like the contrast between the 2 sets of cavalry, I always found it weird that Skinks and Saurus had the same base unit size of 10. Obviously Skinks were a bit cheaper but it just looked unusual to me. Now the wait.... I would love to pick up a second mangler squig to get the army up to 1500, but that is about a 1/3 of what the boxed set is likely gonna cost.
Do you think they'll add the start collecting skinks box back at some point? I planned on buying one...
is it normal for them to put rules for forgeworld models into the main rulebooks now? the fact that , sadly, we didnt get a plastic one (when the model is apparently not available anymore) leaves me to think dont bet on that SF
I doubt it. I'd expect we'll get completly new start collecting boxes. nope, they're always in their own seperate little download.
I really like the kroxigors. Too bad the army set contains a Slaan, I just bought Kroak and really don't need to run two toads. Just started building a Seraphon army, feeling a little silly for buying, assembling and painting up a bunch of Saurus Knights in the past few months, as it looks like the aggradon lancers will be replacing them. I think I'll end up getting the new salamander, an astrolith bearer, some of the calvary, and maybe a scar-vet riding an aggradon for a mobile army with a few bastilidons and kroak. Looking forward to the new book!
they said on the stream the lancers are a replacement for saurus knights. love the new models, hoping lancers are as beefy as varanguard. 6 wounds would be ace. I'd imagine any model that isn't currently in plastic isn't long for this world (razors, eternity warden, sunblood, etc)
I agree that a second Kroxigor type seems like an odd decision. Seeing as they've tried to brand Warspawned as dedicated combat Krox, I wonder if regular Krox will have some kind of support utility as a trade off for reduced killing power?
Me: "I still don't think 'old armies' translates to the army you still own from 8+ years ago, a lot of the old stuff needed larger bases anyway it was always finicky to get models to fit in a regiment while some even floated off of their own base anyway. Corsairs, Cold One Saurus, regular orcs etc." "Not to mention the fact that despite having model overhauls that doubled or even tripled the size of the miniature they were still put on the same size base as the previous edition, remember the old stunted boar models, they fitted into a regiment with nice space left over (not that it needed any with the sculpting pose). Then in 8th we saw the new boars and they become awkward and unbalanced." "I've put human and dwarf sized models on a 25mm by 25mm base instead of a 20mm by 20mm and they look way better in my opinion, I can actually see the model and it still looks like they are within a regiment still. I prefer this + it means if we don't get horde style (let's hope) that it's not going to make much of a difference to a regiments visual size." Am I hard coping? I'm coming over to the idea that we won't see any lizardmen in Old World period. I just don't see them using the old miniatures or even making new ones and everyone argues that we won't see any AoS cross play in any way. Personally this feels like the end times all over again.
Based on the brief description of Warspawned, I guess these will be Krox that go wild if not near a Skink unit (or if a nearby Skink unit is attacked). I agree that they appear very similar and repetitive; big guys with 2-handed weapons.
I must confess, I find myself feeling kind of the same. Some of the new models could be a bit more dynamic and/or varied. I think the Skink Cav and the Salamander feel too static. The new Saurus mounts could have used one that's charging forward or something. I generally prefer the poses of the Krox (especially the Moonhammer), but the heads of the Warspawned. So far, my favorite update has been the Saurus Warriors.
