I... um... to be honest, I don't know what I'm doing. I just came down from 8 months of stress and worry over Raja. For 8 months, I've barely had the time to assemble anything, haven't opened a paint pot in that entire time, and haven't taken the time to do more than sort through my pile of unpainted and cull my collection of minis a little. I don't want to do anything 40K until 10th edition drops (at which point I will probably get my waaaagh on). I have a pile of Orruk Warclans stuff I'm sorting through, some more stuff for my Troggmob to work on, an so forth. My Seraphon stuff is on pause until the new armybook (and minis) drop, so I can use my old Skink Horned One Riders as those new skink cavalry units. I sold my Death army, sold my aelfs, and thanks to the meta, everything Beasts of Chaos is sold out in my area. Except Tzaangor. Yay. My Skaven are sorted, but I just don't feel like working on them at the moment.

Really, I'm just retrenching and trying to figure out where I was with things before Raja got sick, in an attempt to pick up where I left off.

Gold details on my Slaanesh Seekers? I guess is what you call those mounts. I haven't started on the riders yet too daunting, way too much flesh :nailbiting:

I finished painting up 2 minis I'm going to gift to my dentist and the oral surgeon that recently did a crown lengthening procedure on me. Cause it pays to be on the good side of folks who stick sharp things in your mouth.

Took part in a 2000pt AoS game at a friend's house last night. My Daughters of Khaine Melusai list vs his Ironjawz Da Choppas.

Guess which turn this photo was taken at the end of. LOL
    20230403_193905.jpg

Bearing in mind that I started with a Bloodwrack Shrine, an Avatar of Khaine, two Bloodwrack Medusas, two Ironscales, three MSU Blood Sisters units, and three MSU Blood Stalkers units.

the photo was taken at the end of Turn 1.

Ironjawz can be made to have deceptively fast Infantry, and a lot of that comes to the use of Destroyer to get additional movement in the Hero Phase across a decent chunk of the army of little more than 'Ard Boyz and Brutes. He also rolled exceptionally well on the charge rolls with all but the gore-gruntas (lower left corner out of frame).

Incidentally, the mawcrusha he threw into my back line via Hand of Mork was not his general - it was one of his two megabosses on foot instead - the Mawcrusha was just a SCUD missile that could also move during the Hero Phase.

Yep, if you're not prepared, Ironjawz can be devastating.

Ok, I think I figured out where I was at with different projects 9 months ago. So my next hobby project will be... cleaning my house. Not because I want to, but because half of my tools got misplaced during those 9 months and I can't find them. :meh: I did this to myself.

Took a moment to finally plug away at a Biomancer Librarian for my Salamanders. The intent for this model is to both buff a "bake 'n rake" (volkite + lightning claws) jumppack-equipped command squad with a side of smash praetor, as well as be a bit of a terrifying beatstick. Given that this is meant primarily for a Traitor alt to my usual list for Horus Heresy, I wound up taking some liberties with how said biomancy was to be expressed.

    20230407_161800.jpg

Chaos Raptor legs, Salamanders Mk III torso and pauldron, wings from a Tyranid Gargoyle kit...

By that point I was heavily considering cannibalizing a Razordon for a scaly psychic hood or maybe a projection of sorts, but wasn't sure whether it would be feasible or worth the effort. A bit of brainstorming and bit sizing later, I landed on using a Saurus Warrior head instead, figuring that since this biomancer had already fallen to the Dark Side he may as well go all in on the whole "dragon warrior" visage.

Even so, it still took trimming and shaving the saurus crest to make it look more plausible.

    20230407_184624.jpg

Mounting the head in place required a little Green Stuff with some pinning support, so as to not be comically sunken into the collar of the power armour.

    20230407_201918.jpg

And yes, I did give the guy a tail. Leftover bit from a kroxigor kit I cannibalized a couple years ago to make a Blood Bowl mini. I also needed to patch things up in the rear, seeing as the gargoyle wings aren't actually flush with the torso.

Rules-wise, biomancer librarian in artificer armour with jump pack, volkite charger, and force axe that, in total, costs about 152pts.

Biomantic Augmentation: during the Shooting phase, this librarian may forego shooting to grant +1 Strength to himself and the unit he's attached to for the duration of that player's turn. On a successful psychic test, he also grants +1 Toughness.

(S5 lightning claws? S6/12 force axe? S10 thunder hammer? Yes please!)

Biomancer's Rage (melee psychic weapon): during the Combat phase, on a successful psychic test, this psychic may attack with the following weapon profile - S10 AP4 Rending 4+

(As the flavour text says: a true biomancer eschews the use of weapons in melee, instead relying on their psychically enhanced strength to tear apart flesh and steel with terrifying ease.)

Not to be outdone, I also got around to (mostly) finish building up the Traitor Salamanders smash praetor and accompanying command squad.

    20230409_033724.jpg

The command squad consisted mostly of cleaned-up Chaos Raptors parts, with the biggest changes otherwise being the torso front halves (cross-compatible with their non-corrupted counterparts, as it turns out), the Mk III pauldrons, and the wrist-mounted volkite chargers. The heads to be used are the same Zinge Industry dragon skull helmets I've used in previous builds.

The standard bearer was interesting due to scavenging for something that would make sense for a jump assault unit, and I did happen to have parts left over from a Bray'arth Ashmantle kit I put together back in 2018. All it took was some brass rod and a FW power axe to complete the ensemble.

As for the praetor himself, i'm using Haarkon Worldclaimer as the base with parts salvaged from a damaged Firedrake model. Likely will also be using a Zinge Industry helmet for him as well.

Seekers are the riders, the mounts are Steeds of Slaanesh.

Sorted out my box of bases today, turns out I have that many 20mm square bases to nearly fills one of those GW base bags. Not sure whether to use them for my Skaven for TOW or upgrade to the 25mm or sort out a suited movement tray. If Giant rats are going to be a thing then they will look non-existent if they decide to upgrade the base size. I was thinking going Beastmen route but the collection of Skaven I have is more complete in comparison but still slowly chipping into the Beastmen when I can.
Then will Skaven be an army? It would be a crime if they don't and Lizardmen and Dark Elves are probably a long way off when I think about it.
Most thoughts are keeping it within GW standard rules, so can't go proxy route, even though I hardly go there now but I am hoping to one day.
Finally got that deposit down on a shed to fashion up into a small hobby room, after that is all complete it's deciding on a 3D printer, I want both FDM and SLA but can't decide on a brand due to conflicting advice. Might go Creality for the FDM printer though but it's still a maybe.

Painting up a Brutogg Corpse Eater that I bought a while ago to use as a Bruiser. After realizing the stylistic differences between him and the OK, I've decided to gift him to a friend. Going to start on the 3rd edition Chaos Dwarf I bought after I'm finished. Speaking of which, here's some size comparison pics to demonstrate the scale creep I noticed. I've compared his size to a Norse Dwarf from 1991 and then Josef Bugman from 1993.

Started making a Board to play on. The frame is 160 by 120, a little larger than the standard 2000 point board but I don't mind the extra space to work with rather I think I prefer it.

Yeah, sounds like 20mm bases won't be a thing anymore...

Yeah and I've got a ton of 20mm. Unless I just work something out to make a tray to hold them in a 25mm fashion as I won't be doing competitive stuff anyway.

Same, though at the moment nothing (except for one wolf chariot) is based, so I shall deal with it when the time comes. In the meantime, I'm branching out with yet ANOTHER 40K Ork army. The first two are Grot Tank-themed (Freebootaz) and Squig-themed (Goffs)... so for the sake of my sanity, this one uses normal Orks for once. Deathskulls, because I can, and because I like the fluff. So far I've got some shoota boyz, some slugga boyz, some nobz with big choppas, some lootas, a Warboss in Mega-Armor (love that new sculpt), and an Oldhammer weirdboy that is probably older than half the people frequenting this forum! Goomblast (who has a fancy hat and needs arms and a last name) joins Warboss Borgut da Scrap-maker as they prepare to Waagh where no ork has Waaagh'd before! ... except orks are everywhere, even in the Eye of Terror, so I have no idea where that could be.

Speaking of fancy hats, I vaguely remember some web-blogs that had ideas for sculpting hats for Big-Hat Chaos Dwarves. Does anyone still have that link? I'd like to give my Orks some over-the-top hats. :D

I suspect GW will make spacer trays. If not, some bright spark will.

I've been painting a Skaven warlord for my friend's Skaven army. I'm almost done, just need to finish a back banner and some other details.

Despite the constant threat of rain, I spent the weekend priming my all-Melusai DoK army, and even went ahead with starting to paint the Witch-King of Angmar.

    Today i have:
    - Wrote the beginning of my next short story for LO comp
    - completed the bases for 20 dire wolves (grass & sand)
    - detached 5 black knights (2nd hand purchase) from their bases, put them on legal size bases and repainted them.

    I'm satisfied!
