It wasn't my assumption, but rather a response to the example that @Killer Angel provided.

Usually it is pretty clear if someone is acting in good faith or not.

Magic is now split up over all phases depending on the type of spell. This might be better than the previous all magic at once.
They haven't said how dispelling will work so we'll have to wait and see.

Honestly, magic being used throughout every phase just seems better in general regardless of the game system. It allows for more interesting and varied spell-effects. The Enhancement spell they show off is nice.

Other than that, not a whole lot of information in there.

Even though I have a 3D printer - I have been dreaming of an all-melee battlebox from GW simply because I HATE the way nid bio weapons look.

I would be tempted to buy the Tyranid box for sure depending on pricing.

Well the introduction of the Strategy Phase and magic spread across the turn is certainly interesting and offers some new tactical challenges.

Having variable Flight moves makes sense, it means smaller creatures like Harpies and Furies will have a speed advantage over big, cumbersome monsters like Dragons and Manticores.

Placing Night Goblin Fanatics on the table at the very beginning of the turn before any movement has now turned them into a pre-planning challenge - no more moving or waiting for your enemy to move within 8" of you, then stopping everything to release your Fanatics, now you have to move within 8" first and then wait until the following turn before they are released. Not sure if I like that, it doesn't take long for Night Goblins to shove a Fanatic out of a unit, certainly not the wait between the current turn and the next one.

The reincarnation of Djaf's Incantation of Cursed Blades looks truly terrible, a downgrade even when compared to the 8th Edition version, in what was already sadly a weaker magic lore. However, if spells from other magic lores are similarly toned-down in an attempt to return to the less game-breaking magic of 6th and 7th Editions, then it may turn out to not be so bad after all.

Also, sad to see that the unique Incantation system from the 6th Edition Tomb King book won't be returning, sounds like GW are again trying to homogenise magic usage as per 8th Edition, which took some of the differences and uniqueness away from some of the factions.

A new website, Warhammer.com, has replaced the Games Workshop and Forge World sites, and it looks as commercialised as frak.

I remember when the last version of the GW site came out, in 2013 I believe it was - a whole decade ago now, and in the twilight years of the GW of old and Warhammer Fantasy. At the time I thought it was a bit of a downgrade compared to the previous version of the GW site (I remember being annoyed at the new faction search being made up of checkboxes you had to select and deselect to get one faction's range rather than the radio buttons that existed before that that allowed you to switch between armies with just one click, as only a perfectionist like me can :p), but that's rather petty compared to the melancholy feelings I have now (plus the guilt I now get when I'm assigned a 'shopping slot' when I just want to look at models and their equipment options for my army list writing - thanks GeeDubs, I can never look at your models online with a clear conscience again ).

Perhaps I'm being too much of a Longbeard and a grumbler for something so seemingly minor superficially, but I just can't help feeling sad at one of the last features of the old GW I used to know and love disappear, replaced with another attempt to further the agenda of making Warhammer more of a corporate brand than a game.

Rowntree may have saved the company and propelled it to new heights, but I remain concerned that he's happy to sacrifice its soul for money like a true capitalist and Ferengi.

Why does the stupid pop-up for the region not go away when I click on the region....

Also; O GOD WHY IS THE ACTUAL SHOP A MOBILE FIRST DESIGN?

    upload_2023-10-31_20-20-48.png

Why is there such an insane amount of empty space? I can't even fit 2 rows of stuff on my screen, why would you make the pictures this absurdly big? Which idiot designed this clusterfuck of a shop menu? It takes like 4 clicks to get to a different army.

Even ignoring the complete lack of a heart and soul due to the commercialized style, what the hell kind of UX is this?

I also wondered this, until I found out that the region was preselected, so all you should need to do is click close (which makes me wonder what the point is in having a region appear at the beginning if it already presets the region, it'd be better to just let the user access the site straightaway and just have the region selector on standby in case the preselection mucks up).

Probably because GW think most people prefer to buy stuff on their phones now (which is certainly not true right now but may well become true in the future when my mad phone-dependent generation reaches middle age).

Does Forge World still have a dedicated section on the new website (at a cursory glance I didn't see it) or are their products simply listed under the relevant game (Horus Heresy, etc.)?

Not enough to make a sound judgement. The things they showed could be good or bad depending on the rules surrounding them and how they are implemented. Breaking up the magic phase (my favourite phase for the record) and incorporating it into the other phases of the game carries potential advantages and disadvantages. From what little we've seen, it is impossible to determine if it will ultimately be a net good or a net bad.

Nope, Forge World models are now incorporated into the faction ranges to which they belong alongside standard GW models. The only ways in which they are delineated as Forge World models now are the ridiculous price tags and the moniker 'Expert Kit'.

Doesn't that just perfectly blend them in alongside the ridiculous GW price tags? :p

The gap between the two used to be extremely pronounced, but over the years I think the separation between the two has been slowly coming together.
