Hey guys! I've played a few games and generally have issues with Dragons. I feel that the Lizardmen book handles these kinds of models poorly. And at the same time we all know they will be popular so we need to find something can counter them. **Characters** - 1x Saurus Oldblood: Carnosaur, Dragon Slaying Sword, Armour of Meteoric Iron, Talisman Of Protection - 1x Skink Priest: Wizard Level 2, Illusion, Power Scroll, Lore Familiar - 1x Slann Mage-Priest: General, Battle Standard Bearer, Wizard Level 4, Elementalism **Core** - 12x Saurus Warrior, Shieldwall, Standard Bearer, Spawn Leader - 10x Skink Skirmishers Javelins and Shields, Scouts - 10x Skink Skirmishers Javelins and Shields, Scouts - 10x Skink Skirmishers Javelins and Shields - 20x Temple Guard, Standard Bearer (War Banner), Revered Guardian, Musician **Special** - 1x Bastiladon, Solar Engine **Rare** - 1x Ancient Stegadon: Giant Bow This list brings 3 fighty things: Oldblood; 20 TG and the Ancient Stegadon. Also brings a bunch of ranged attacks in the form of 3 units of Skink Skirmishers (two with Scouts); Ancient steg with Giant Bow + some javelins and a Bastiladon with 3 javelins. Ideally I would roll Plague of Rust and Wind Blast on the Slann. Earthen Ramparts is pretty good too, same for Travel Mystical Pathway. Plague of Rust a target; shoot it with poison, Wind Blast and Beam of Chotec from the Bastiladon. The Skink Priest is in there for Column of Crystal and Miasmic Mirage. I am assuming I will see a lot of Dragons or other models with Fly (9/10) hence the Dragon Slaying Sword on the Oldblood and the Skink Priest (to deny charge/march moves and block LOS). Thoughts?
Will be interesting to see how many spells you can get off with a level 2 priest if they have a level 4 dispeller. 12 Saurus is not a lot for a unit. It's all theory at this point but i suspect you'll want more. If this unit is to be thrown to the wolves I'll consider not taking the standard due to the victory point loss
You're absolutely right! I had some idea about a small ish shieldwall unit to just hold a single charge and forgot to properly remove it haha. I want to use a small saurus warrior unit as like "fighty" chaff; you cant just kill it with random chaff. Dropping the unit to the bare minimum gives me 59 points to play with so I have some options: - 10x Skink Skirmishers: not the huuugest fan of this because I'm seeing alot of tournaments going max 0-3 units and capping that. - Wand of Jet on the Slann might be fun to push some spells through but a tad risky. - Cube of Darkness but that will be crappy if I have a vortex up - Cupped Hands could be nice but I feel like that it brings little value - Dispel Dicipline? Soul of Stone? - More bodies in TG? Choices!
Soul stone is good for be a cheap one! Dispel discipline is good but really costly, just a question are you inside the 1000 point hero limit? I’ll prefer sword of might to the carnosaur to use against other troops, meteoric iron isn’t either bad but carnosaur will probably be soon in melee and 4+ usual armour save isn’t that bad against arrows crossbows and so on. Bastiladon is cool and really useful, however 3 kroxigor are cheaper. I play both so isn’t a problem but idk really which I would choose between them Warbanner is good but I’ll probably prefer engine of goods. The bow isn’t bad but will always shoot at 5+ with moving and won’t do much if enemies has 2+ armour save plus ward/regeneration saves. It can’t either shoot if the view is blocked by vortex as your tactic is. Last but not least it will work against easier and faster units as light cavalry skirmisher and so on
If doing nothing else to your slann, I think the 10 points on Soul Stone is always worth it. Means you will only suffer the worst result on a 2, and instesd of losing your magic phase on the roll of an 8+, it's a 9+, as you always bump an 8 down to 7, or a 9 up to 10 for a perfect cast at least.
