After a few years of inactivity, I've decided to return to Warhammer and rebuild my Lizardmen host. I won't repaint my old models AGAIN (2-3 times..), so I'll have to buy the plastics and i'll try to salvage the metal models.
But before I start painting anything, I'll need a color scheme. And boy, I've been pondering about that for weeks...
My old color scheme was a blue skin, green scales and red shields. But this time I'll try something different.
This was my second try (the first was the same but with a green hide, but I like this one better):

    bluebone.jpg

    And it evolved to this:

    bluegrey.jpg
(this isn't quite my best painting job ever, it's just a color test :p)

I think I'll go with the last one, but I'd like to hear your oppinions. Also, I'd be glad to see your color schemes, so you can post links to your blog here if you want :)

(ps.: for the weapon on the last pic I was trying to go with a dark-red volcanic glass look. but it failed >.<)

I have to agree with you that the second one looks more striking, nice work! I think you should go with that one.

    Re: Rebuilding the Host

I wanted to start rebuilding my host with a box of saurus warriors. I went to the local store, but it seems they have stopped selling warhammer, so they had nothing i needed (not even paint..). This means I'll either have to order online (which means convincing Frenzied Daddy) or wait till I can get it somewhere else (which will be about a week). Sigh, of to a good start..

So I'm salvaging my metal models, which means i'm stripping their bases and might strip their paint too. This will give me 3 kroxigor (2 5th edition and 1 from 6th, might buy another one from 5th if i see one), 3 salamanders with crew (1 5th edition, 2 6th) a slann which will need to be stripped, a carnosaur, some chameleons and about 26 6th edition temple guards. (other metal stuff i have will be replaced).
    My fingers hurt like crazy...

Still, I'll paint what I have, but I'm running out of paints i need..

    Re: Rebuilding the Host

So i'll be getting my saurus and some paint on tuesday. i've been busy stripping the bases of old models and cleaning up the models themselves (mould lines etc). AFter I've painted the saurus i'll strip the paint of the old models.

But I had another question: what should i do with the bases? Just the regular grass/sand, or should i go with something different?

So I got myself a box of saurus on tuesday, and in these days I've managed to paint up 2 entire saurus and an entire skink! God, i'm slow...

I'll post another pic when I've finished the command group, which will probably be in about a week xD

Then I'll wait till I've painted something else or finished the entire regiment, which will probably be around Christmas >.<

P.S.: I suck at taking pictures.

    Looking good!

I'm with you on being epic slow on painting. It takes me forever to get anything painting because I'm always thinking about ways to improve the scheme while I am attempting to paint it, which makes for lots of coffee breaks and general "doing something else" breaks.

I'll eventually get some pics of mine up..I have a single saurus done...and am working on my slann..palaquin is taking forever

That skink is absolutely phenomenal! I might use that color pattern for my Sauri, thanks!

    Re: Rebuilding the Host

This is quite scary. After 3 months of not touching a single mini, i continued work on my saurus (a little bit), and the very same day people suddenly start replying to this topic after 3 months of inactivity :p

i haven't done much in this time. the first rank is finished (i'll upload some pics tomorrow) and i started on some skinks and my second rank of saurus, but they are far from finished.
schoolwork, no motivation (when you have to draw all day you don't feel like painting in your spare time :p) and memory less prevented me from doing much. maybe i'll get back into action :)

Great work on those scales!!! This 1st rank looks very promising, the unit as a whole should look stunning! I'm curious as to how you painted those scales, care to share your recipe?

    Re: Rebuilding the Host

I start the scales with a basecoat of Chaos Black (like the rest of the model). Then I paint the scales with Codex Grey, making sure the "cracks" stay black. Then I go around the edges of the scales with Skull White. Quite simple, but takes some time since I do almost every scale individually.

And thanks for the positive comments! :) I'm quite content with how they look as a unit :).

    Re: Rebuilding the Host

    Wow, it's only been 3 months :D.

Managed to get some stuff done. Finished 4 skinks, so the Brave now has a tiny squad. I also painted a Kroxigor (5th edition) and added a rank to my saurus unit.

    Skinks-1.jpg

    Krox1.jpg

Now I'm working on a Skink Priest and 2 Temple Guard. The Priest should be finished any day now.

(ps: could a mod move this to the paint logs?)
