I ran a 1500 tournament list with the same Slann build and I really liked it! He's gotta work overtime to win his points back, but he can certainly do it! A lot depends on who you are facing, a tough enemy caster or magic-arrow deathball might force you to play too conservative. Your list looks quite competitive, maybe a bit light on skinks? My list if that interests you: (basically replaced kroxigor/stegadon/swarm for more skinks/2xbastiladon/armor of meteoric iron) === Solar Host 1500 [1500 pts] Warhammer: The Old World, Lizardmen === ++ Characters [744 pts] ++ Slann Mage-Priest [430 pts] - Hand weapon - General - Battle Standard Bearer - Ruby Ring of Ruin - Lore Familiar - Higher State Of Mind - Battle Magic Saurus Scar-Veteran [314 pts] - Great weapon - Heavy armour (Scaly skin) - Carnosaur - Armour of Meteoric Iron - Talisman of Protection ++ Core Units [406 pts] ++ 14 Saurus Warriors [196 pts] - Hand weapons - Shields - Heavy armour (Scaly skin) 10 Skink Skirmishers [50 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Shields - Light armour (Calloused hides) 10 Skink Skirmishers [50 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Shields - Light armour (Calloused hides) 10 Skink Skirmishers [50 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Shields - Light armour (Calloused hides) 10 Skink Skirmishers [60 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Shields - Light armour (Calloused hides) - Scouts ++ Special Units [350 pts] ++ Bastiladon [175 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Thunderous bludgeon - Solar Engine Bastiladon [175 pts] - Hand weapons - Javelins - Thunderous bludgeon - Solar Engine
Thanks for the reply - your list looks tight. I do think that is the best setup for a ScarVet Carnosaur at this points cost. Unfortunately I'm limited by models somewhat (30 Skinks with Javelins, 12 with Blowpipes, one Bastiladon - Beam). At the min core and max characters I can't fit in the Ancient Steg - a must for me - and the Krox champ. to get the Armour of Meteoric Iron for 5+ 5+. I'm really out on Saurus at the moment, despite trying them in different amounts with command, etc. I've had some success with Swarms, and while expensive, the vanguard and tarpit aspects are really helpful to what I want to do. I tried 3x 10 Skinks recently and that felt clogged without much hitting power in the list. Do you have enough damage output at 1500? I've been underwhelmed by Bastiladons, recently. Mostly move 4 is killing me - I'm finding Lizardmen need to get into combat more quickly and the Move 6 units are key to that. I'm always marching or charging and therefore the Beam isn't getting off. Do you get a lot out of the Initiative bonus in multiples?
Swarms are great! Roadblock works nicely in tandem with the minimum saurus unit. I really don't rate Saurus high either. I was initially of same thought about Bastiladons but once I got 2 painted up and started testing them I changed my mind. 2xBastiladon + skinks/stegadons/Slann offer so much shooting that enemy will have to come to you. You can just play slow and steady. Arcane Urgency helps with the slow speed to get them in position. Initiative bonus is really only a factor vs great weapons or vs initiative 4/5 on the charge. It's not nothing but quite meh.
Interesting. I probably need to get 10 more Skinks and another Bastiladon. Do you know if the kit supports being able to switch between Beam and Ark? I got my one second hand and beam was already glued on.
Hey mate, I agree with beardedLizard that skinks are great but I still think the saurus could make a great very strong and punchy block that we are forced to take anyway also I found the instructions for a basti here https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerInstructions/comments/5mgna4/seraphon_lizardmen_bastiladon/ - you do have the choice of either
Scar Vet - Armour of Metoric Iron is a great buy for it. Consider making it your BSB for the combat res and it crashes around the map. Kroxigor - do not take a champion. They are st7 so when you hit something big, a challenge will make it difficult for you. You want 12 attacks going at the big thing, not 4. Skinks - I do not like Scouts, they deprive us of the +1 for getting first turn most of the time. Just personally but I'd prefer vanguard.
1. If the Carnosaur survives the race across the board it seems to be ok - I ended up with the BSB on the Ethereal Slann which I'm happy about as I've seen the lists and I might need it to break a few non-res units. 2. Great advice - I'm locked into the champ (lists have been submitted) but there's never a reason I want to be in a challenge! Will remember for the future. 3. I don't think Scouts detract from the +1 to deploy?
1. BSB on the slann is fine too. It's often more useful there as it is more central. If you end up with hammerhands don't be coy about charging with the slann into a flank if you have to. Ethereal, dispruting, etc. Its not plann Alpha but its better than you think. 2. yes you might want to refuse the challenge. Kroxigor probably can't take down a dragon anyway, but if I was fighting one certainly I'd refuse the challenge and at least hit back with 6-9 attacks instead of 0-4. 3. RAW is very clear. But most players agree that it is not RAI and most touraments and community facts take your way of thinking consequently. My meta does not, so I always take vanguard. (I notice I wrote "time" instead of "turn" so yes the +1 for first turn you get for finishing deployment first is lost due to scouts on a strictly RAW basis) PS. Sorry I missed this before your lists were locked in.
