Today marks a year and day since @Lizards of Renown made his last post on the forum. The forum has not been the same without him. I still maintain that he was the best conversationalist Lustria Online has ever seen. A Sacred Knight of the Divine Order. A fellow Chaos Dwarf general. A friend. A brother. Wherever you might be, whatever you might be doing, godspeed brother.
BOOOOOOBBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: Maybe stretching out Bob isn't the best idea because it could be construed as "boob" I think he actually passed away because he mentioned cancer treatment before he stopped posting.
That is especially sad. I hope that was not the case, but of course we all have our time, and when our respective times come we can do nothing about it. I'd certainly like to give a shout-out to some friends who are no longer with us for whatever reason too... Fellow Fyreslayer fan @Wazz Regular Star Wars poster @ravagekitteh Our Master of Paints @Crowsfoot Member of the Old Guard @Ritual Ambassador to the Feline Universe @PhoenixTheCat Spanish Kings of War superfan @Itepixcauh Handler of Skinks and staff member @LizardWizard Welsh ex-Lizard player @Slannta's Little Helper Programming whizz and fellow armchair Ancient historian @GreenyRepublic And also special mentions to some who still seem to be around every so often but no longer post much, like aspiring 'children's book' author @Lizerd, shroomlord and plumber fighter @Bowser, AoS stalwart @Aginor, Lizard-girl @little-myth and @n810, our first Slann and prominent staff member.
I remember when he drew me this... Spoiler: For any newer members, this was my avatar at the time. I truly hope that he is healthy and okay. He's a great dude.
That's a really sad hypothesis. But despite the real reasons behind, we have so many lost lustrian friends...
That's true. Depending on where you draw the line for "active" forum members, of the top 20 posters, only 8 are active. You can make an argument for a ninth.
That is the real trick now isn't it. We've had so many great forum members come along, contribute greatly and then sadly disappear.
Alas dear WillQueek, General Vorg, Silas, Kimzi, SkavenDan, Vinz, S'nkeep, Guildy, Sketch, ShuNian, Arskittar, Bountlich, Mathusala, Cap, Rusty, Scarfester, Scriv, Stinky, and so more... Oh... wait-wait...wrong-wrong forum-thing... Ugh, to be be more serious, this thread does make me sad. So many good and great people that have passed by like ships in the night. I do especially miss Bob and Bowser. *Raises glass* Here's to you, absent friends.
You had me going for a second... I didn't recognize a single name in your list. I was ready to chalk it up to them being AoS players or something. This hobby unfortunately has a fairly high turnover rate.
Wow that is sad. Sorry to hear about Bob if that is the case; he was truly a master in the lost art of Lizard puns. Slightly sad to see so many familiar names consigned to this list as well . Glad I am not one of them just yet, though my postings have become ever more infrequent. I felt this way when the hallowed Round Table of Bretonnia shut down. Sadly the link doesnt appear to even work for me anymore. That was the first forum I joined after lurking for years (was 2015 that long ago?!). Bolter and Chainsword is still up and running though, that is good! I never was a big poster over there but I have been a dedicated lurker since at least ~2003. On the plus side there is still a lot of great WH content out there, and tabletop resources in general, for the hobbyist to find for inspiration. Instagram has a lot of great painters, I post a lot of hobby progress there, but Lustria Online remains one of my favorite internet homes Tonight I have decided that I shall make a fancy tiki drink and have a toast to remember some of the great forumites of lizard's past. Fun fact, if you google "beautiful Lustria scenery" the first picture that comes up for me is some of @n810, beautiful terrain projects. Also it takes you directly to this link, of which the first terrain post is some very high tech trees crafted by the mighty @Scalenex !!!!
Don't you give up on us old friend! Keep on posting, even if it is only infrequently. We've already lost most of our old guard.
After the End Times, the fall of so many old forums hurt me more than the killing of WHFB. 'cause WHFB could still be played, but a closed forum is gone.
Yeah...End Times really wrecked the UnderEmpire but looking back the forum itself was starting to die. Skaven hadn't really gotten much love since Island of Blood (and none of the minis from that were repackaged and sold again.) There had been hope there would be a big refresh with the range and clear out the old 90s and 2000s monkey rats...instead End Times. There were other reasons I know. Things like Facebook and Discord were becoming a lot more popular for people, especially since the UE Council sat on their paws and didn't really push to integrate those with the forum. Likewise, there was kick back from any idea of revamping or changing. There were several Council debates over what to do about post-End Times, whether to accept AoS, go 9th Age, go Kings of War, stubbornly exist as heavily supporting pre-End Times Warhammer...and we ended up trying to support all of the above. With falling member numbers and traction, this did not work and just divided things further. Then Zetaboards died and we ended up with Tapatalk which ruined most of the forum's characterful look. By that point the only real active members were a couple of Councillors popping in every now and again. A sad end to a once great forum. But at least I was a part of it for some of its life. The friends made and the moments of laughter, sorrow, and joy will remain with me, just as the memories of those forum members on here will linger and stir wistful melancholy and remembrance.
