I recently found out that the "the customer is always right" is a bastardization of the original quote, "the customer is always right in matters of taste."

I like this a lot better. It means if a customer to wants to pay you money for something weird to you, you should try to accommodate it (as long as its legal), but if a Karen demands a discount for no reason, the customer is not right.
