I imagine they would if they're cheap enough in points... the boars would have a similar profile to the Greenskin boars, with the Tusker Charge rule to give them a +1 Strength and AP bonus on turns they charge. The bears will probably be the strongest in combat, and the cats and dogs will likely be faster-moving but more fragile. I'd like to think they'd have the Skirmishers rule to give them a small modicum of defence against shooting attacks, and if so it'll allow them to serve as annoying flankers and chaff at small sizes. I'll be interested to see how large the units can be made too to see if they can be taken in numbers enough to be a threat to rank-and-file infantry and cavalry. Each handler's group of animals will be a separate unit I think... and with 3D printing and companies like Reaper around, it'd be easy enough to buy extra of particular animals if you wanted to make bigger packs of one specific animal.

On a completely unrelated note, a few weeks prior to this announcement, @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER sent over some home baked banana bread and cupcakes to the big-wigs at GW HQ. It's probably completely unrelated though.

IDK... that might be the most emaciated bear I've ever seen.

Those models blend extremely poorly with GW's plastic Wood Elves. They're extremely dated.

First cookies and now banana-bread and cupcakes... does the Sith Order have a cookery club or something (with the Canadian branch meeting in your house)? :p

Not to mention I do wonder how they survived the trip across the Atlantic :D

The scions of Athel Loren no doubt have a potion to remedy that...

    Absolutely!

The Beasty Boys are back in town! Looking forward to picking a good few of these up. Will definitely be getting the Arcane Journal, the Gor box and at least one Minotaur box.

Also, intriguing that the Preyton and the Herdstone aren't part of this wave, so looks like the Arcane Journal-specific models will be coming out later on. And then Grand Cathay... and in all probability Kislev after that. I was chatting to one of the chaps in my local GW today and he was pretty confident that both Cathay and Kislev would arrive this year. After that... who knows?

But they've certainly picked up speed on the TOW releases across this year which I've been pretty chuffed about.

I don't know... the head seems really small compared to the rest of him, but maybe my perception is getting skewed by the pauldrons. The rear view it doesn't seem so bad, so... hmm...

It's an okay model, but not worth the price they will be asking for it.

I always find it odd seeing a Khorne mini with a shield. The mental image I have of a Khorne worshiper is a berserker type with either a great axe or an axe in each hand. That said, I kinda like this one. Might use one for a conversion.

Absolutely, it's great to see how they've really stepped on the accelerator for Old World stuff of late, and fans of the new faction will no doubt be overjoyed to see it arrive so soon. It will certainly be exciting to see the different mechanics of the first new official faction in Warhammer Fantasy since Ogre Kingdoms back in the mid-2000s, and how they'll interact with the other armies (both main and 'Legacy') in the game. Also I quite like how they're just releasing a small, affordable 40-something page softback Journal now that seems like it will have just the rules for this first wave in it, to see how these initial releases interact with the existing meta, and are later planning to release a bigger Journal to accompany a second wave of releases down the line, as it will give the devs a chance to tweak the rules for the first wave' worth of units should they prove too strong or weak against other armies and will do a lot to balance the faction out.

I also find it interesting how AoS has really taken a back seat this year too - all that's come out for it over the first half of the year is the Vampire stuff, and they're taking ages to release the hero models and Battletomes for Khorne and Idoneth Deepkin. Between this and seeing both the lack of new factions since 3rd and how little they did with the rules changes for 4th, I do wonder if they've run out of ideas for AoS and are reduced to trying to keep it on life-support now that TOW's taking a fair bit of its playerbase.

I certainly wonder - if they keep up this release rate for the probably two or three waves of Cathay stuff we'll see, there will certainly be a big space to reserve for releasing Kislev later on this year too.

WOW... it's been that long. Crazy.

I hope they don't start cannibalizing each other's player base.

Meh, they are still very different games, and there will always be fans of both - there will absolutely now be some AoS die-hards who prefer simpler, faster games with rather too much focus on the grabbing of pointless objective markers and continually buffing the units that sit on them with rules chosen for them before the game begins, and those who prefer the AoS setting for whatever reason. Also it depends very much on what people are interested in across the country... in one particular FLGS I know of in a holiday destination I visited last year, TOW killed its AoS scene pretty much on the spot because the only people playing AoS were ex-Warhammer Fantasy players who were just using AoS to satisfy their fix of something fantasy, and then changed over when they saw a new edition of Warhammer Fantasy come out. By contrast around my way my biggest FLGS seems to host more AoS-related events (though there are plenty of Old World players around... they just play at various clubs rather than meeting up to play at the shop).

But TOW has done a lot to unite much of the previously-splintered Warhammer Fantasy playerbase, and GW seem to have noticed that now they've sped up the game's releases and are willing to stump up more money to make a brand-new faction, and one that is fully hard-plastic to boot, with no cutting corners and making some of the stuff in overpriced Forge World Resin. I'm looking forward to seeing the direction it heads in...
