Ah, New Year, New Army... kind of.

So, with the advent of 11th edition on the horizon, and the political atmosphere locally, I have decided that trying to make the dogboy police force I was considering is... not... um... it's a bad idea from a social standpoint. Plus we don't know if Agents will even get an 11th edition codex anyway. So, to dip into the waters, I bought a single War Dog for Chaos Knights off of ebay. Wanted to see how they built (slowly - lots of parts there) and if I wanted to make a whole army of them (still not sure).

But... one War Dog Stalker does not an army make, so for the time being I need to ally it into another army. My Daemons could use it, I suppose, but they need shooting more than melee, and I'm not sure I need to ally it into the daemons. They have plenty of big thugs of their own. So instead, I'm returning to some of my 40K roots and getting back into Chaos Marines.

    Kind of.

Introducing the Cult of the Wolf. The core idea here is that Fabulous Bill (Fabius Bile for those who don't know the meme) got some Space Wolf geneseed and is making werewolves (because why not). The further along in the change the cultist is, the bigger and nastier (and perhaps less intelligent, not sure yet) they become. Planning to use Blood Bowl werewolves and khorngors as my Chaos Ogryn/Cultist Torments, and normal Cultist/Traitor Guard/whatever will be made using a variety of different conversion bits. Some from older, out of use sculpts, others 3d printed, and so forth. So to start, we have a Cultist Firebrand:

    20260107_144212.jpg 20260107_144221.jpg 20260107_144226.jpg

Made from a Sisters Priest with ... vindicator weapon I guess? It works as a Firebrand with some icon swaps to chaos ones and a canine (jackal) head, and then we have a couple of cultists:

Going to use Orlock Gangers for most of my Cultists, and paint up the various hounds from different games to be wolves/cyberwolves to use as Accursed Cultists (pets). This also allows me to make use of some Oldhammer Predator and Vindicator tanks I have lying around already. Just need to figure out how to sculpt tails, and then track down some Blood Bowl figures without having to buy an entire team I only need a few parts from...

They just need their shields decorated and then I'm on a small unit of Waywatchers. Once the varnish is dried I'll try and post the Dragon and my BSBs.

Thanks! He was part of a trade years ago from a friend who didn't like him. Weird I know. I really want Glam and Scarloc and that era archers but the cost, if you find them, is insane.

Sorry for double post, saw these in the drawer while looking to see what I have on the horizon. Good trade but apparently I'm missing one of the crew. Now come the dilemma, buy one or cast one up. 20260110_173222.jpg

I used to just use random cannons but once I was able to get these they became the go to.

If only his rules made him worth the insane cost. One day I will play him despite the cost just to play him.

Is his cost high in The Old World or Fantasy Battles, or both?

No idea with Ole World but it's high in Fantasy. He's also weirdly fragile for such a tough creature, I really want to play him but I can bring so much more to my army for his cost. Drop him by 100pts and he'd be viable but possibly too strong. Trying to plan a game where it's mostly bring fun stuff and cost won't be the issue. No one seems to be biting, they don't game enough anymore and prefer better balanced games. New year sonwe will keep trying!

...sorta good at beating face? He is decent at WS and has high str so he should be solid at stomping things. The problem is that he doesn't really have much in the way of wounds or saves so he tends to crumble in prolonged fights. Hit a unit on the side or rear with another unit on another flank? He can do work. If you could take more than the two hounds they would be useful as it would give more attacks and ranks, as is they are a trap buy as they just make you crumble faster as they die easily. He is priced at Bloodthirster price but he is no thirster. He's almost okay in 6th or 7th edition as if he kills enough they don't swing back, however in 8th he just dies to hordes. For less than half his points I can have an Alter Noble fully kitted out. 6th edition, that does serious work for me. It's so frustrating as it's such a great model and cool idea but too costly. I'd have to look again but he might be able to join the wild riders, if so that makes him protected and able to do real damage smdespite his cost. I believe he is a Monstrous creature so wouldn't be able to. That a shame even if it makes sense.

I don't think he can join another unit (besides his hounds) because he is unbreakable. I could be wrong though.

What about his ranged attacks? What is your opinion on them?
