The BRB says when talking about spell targeting that the default targeting rules (not in CC, LoS cone) only apply if the spell doesn't provide alternate targeting rules. DoI states it "targets all enemy units within 2d6 inches", which to me sounds very much like the spell providing alternate targeting rules.
Yeah I could see the spell ruling go a couple of different ways but I would NOT say that because a unit in CC is in range that the spell can't go off. Even if it didn't affect units in CC it would simply not target them and the spell would hit whatever else is in range. I agree that it does say "every" unit though so that should mean "every" unit is affected.
Spot on. I agree with this interpretation. Saying he can't cast his spell because one unit in range is in CC is just plain silly. Personally, I think the spell will target all units, even those in CC, once the errata comes out but I won't play it that way until then.
Since deliverance of itza is strength 4, will it do any real damage to tougher troops then goblins and other similar low toughness models?
Yes he can. Only magic missiles are not permitted to be cast out of combat. Kroak's spell is direct damage, so you can cast it even when engaged in close combat.
So whats the consensus of making a TG death star and going straight up the middle? Seems to me like they can sew havoc with good support. And kroak cost less than a fully kitted put slann
Another question. Could I place my TG, then add a Scar vet BSB, then add Kroak? Cuz he gives the unit unbreakable, so the scar vet couldnt normally join...
It worked Great for me in my last two tournaments. Both Grand tournaments, 5 games over 2 days. I went 4-1 both tourneys. Lost to a huge orc army in the last one just couldn't stop them with the choppers and rerolls. It was bad. In the first one I lost to high elf army with the folding fortress. I had him in a 40 man temple guard unit with a Saurus BSB attached. the standard placement was to plop it down midboard watch the other's placement and move to the side with the most stuff. I also had a skink in a Skrox unit incase they went both ways. Couldn't have the flying skink as they were using Swedish comp and that is a huge hit. To be clear, Kroak spell and similar spells, were ruled to hit all units within the range. As stated above, the TOs read the targeting rules overriding the BRB . Also a benefit was that Kroak was ruled not to lose concentration if he missed a casting roll. So needed a 6 on 2 dice to make the casting level rolling a 4 didn't hurt. This was based off his first Gen Slann rules: Paraphrase: Kroak can cast his spell as long as he has power dice to do so, yadda yadda knows spell yadda yadda. No other restrictions apply. So this allowed me to spam the spell more freely.
I recently ran Kroak with Tetto 'eko against a Dwarf gunline that ran mostly small units. I ran all Skinks for core and a horde of 46 Temple Guard and lots of Terradon's and Chameleons with a flying Skink Priest. I rolled to vanguard 3. I also got the first turn. My army was in their face turn one and I rolled 10 dice for magic on both turn 1 and turn 2. After Kroak hitting with the spell against most of their army 5 or 6 times, my skink shooting from the Chameleons and Terradons both turns and then all my core turn two pretty much sealed the deal and we called it. It was actually pretty sick and probably not something I'll run in a friendly game again.
Well, then no TG with s-vet bsb and Kroak? But, when I first add bsb and then Kroak, isnt bsb part of unit? I tested ETC tg with Kroak, Tetto and COC with CO Oldblood and CO s-vst BSB and, as told Andrinor it was brutal. Vanguarding unbreakable TG hold everything and co bus with charakters to enemy flank made good job everytime. In Etc is Kroak better than normal thanks FAQ his spell is hitting enemies in 360° and also engaged ones.
All this info is really good. I currently have a Slann and he has had 1 run out in a small friendly game. However I have been looking and Lord kroak and Tetto to see how the fair so it's good to see they can dish out a good beating.
Combination TG Kroak unit and Tetto is very nice. Enemy with WS 4 or less hit you on 5+, WS 5 and more on 4+, but thanks Tetto spells - another -1 to hit, or reroll of 6/or (in the best moment, both spells) make TG Kroak unit near unhittable by any enemy.
I find Lord Kroak good to use against high number of multiple units, means more hits getting in from the spell, more explosions. I used him once and he did work out very well for me. Going off the title topic, Tetto is very good too and I feel he is slightly underrated, I never seen so many enemies get blown up by loads of comets. I usually stall the comet before I let it go, depending on the situation. I use it as a scare marker too, scaring the opponent to go off course.
