Obviously we're yet to see the final product, but it will be an auto-buy for me even though it will be wasted on a painter as average as myself. Will be my first WHFB forgeworld purchse!
All I want is a huge dinosaur that towers over my opponents. If that's what Forgeworld is providing, I'll end up buying it eventually.
It really depends if I can use it in my meta. We play "BY! THE! RULES!" ...you know, that irritatingly lawyerish "if you dont have it in writting we counter-argue and wont allow that piece of fun". I will need a battlescroll, and even then the restrictions we play with dosn't cover it = not allowed.
I'll probably get it the next time I run Lizards in a big game, say 5k or more. But I don't play big games that often and I played Lizards the last time, so chances are I'll be using my other 5k+ armies the next few games, so I guess it will be a few years. @Phatmotha-phucka: Even if your group/club is tournament-oriented it shouldn't be too hard to get a few guys together and run a SoM game just for the fun of it. Our club is full of tournament players and I've been able to get them to play some crazy games.
I like the rules, not the model! Looks like a big scrawny rat... Does anyone know the dimensions of the model? I'd like to customise something that is the same size so I can use it in some games.
I'm afraid of the $$$. The price of our new Carno is a bit extreme. Can't imagine the price tag associated with this beasty.
Any leaks of the rules or point cost for the model? My lizardmen results have been pretty lacklustre recently so if its cheap and overpowered I'm all in.
I believe the rules are in the Monstrous Arcanum. If you were looking for "leaks" you might want to look in a "bay" of "pirates".
Or you could do a forum search.... http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/monstrous-arcanum-dread-saurian.10948/
Looking at the rumors, nobody would ever play against it, so it isn't worth me building and painting. Seriously, a huge ethereal whoop ass? That + life toad is most likely game breaking. -Matt
It doesn't have to be etherial, most of those rules are upgrades for the beast (upgrades cost points).
With all those upgrades he's like 600 points at least. There is a reason 600 point monsters aren't used. I doubt he's that rage inducing.
I don't think I'll get it. It's undoubtedly a well sculpted model but it doesn't have the aesthetic I like. I think the previous comparison to a rat is more fitting than anything I can use to describe it. It looks like a giant rat skeleton with a dino skull then covered in tightly stretched reptile skin and dabbled with spikes and scales as needed. That's not to say it doesn't look good, it does, but just not what I would have envisioned.
Thank you gents pretty sweet monster still. The ambusher is great, keep him off the table at the start to avoid cannons. They'll get one chance at him.
Here he is: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/News/dread_saurian.html I think he looks great, but I think the price will be too steep.
