So I basically just woke up and decided I was going to play warhammer started talking to the owner of my local mtg shop and they were trying to start a league so I went all in got the battalion box rule book and the lizardmen army book trying to put together a 500. Point army and I'm stomped. There's another guy running lizardmen so I'm trying not to use the skink priest. Any ideas cause I've got nothing
Welcome to the forum. You will be able to put together a 500 point army from the battalion box. At this point cap, you have the choice between using a Saurus Scar Veteran or a Skink Priest as your general, both has their cons and pros. If you do not want to use skink priests atm. then this could be a possible list: Saurus Scar-Veteran (General) (Just use one of your saurus warriors as a scar vet, perhaps paint him a little different) 12 Saurus Warriors 10 Skink Skirmishers 5 Cold One Riders Here you would fill your quota up to the allowed Hero points limit tooling up the Scar Veteran (i.e. give it the desired magic equipment). You also have seven more saurus warriors, and two more skinks in the box, so you could take less cold one riders and more of those instead. In regards to the skink priest, I strongly recommend that you also try to play using that, as even if there is another one using lizardmen that does not mean that you should not use X unit. Also if you feel that putting together a list is difficult, there is a good software called "Army Builder", I think it cost like 20 dollars for a license (but you can test it for free). As you make an army it will tell you if your choices are valid or not and show you what is wrong. And as you put together an army, feel free to post on our army forum for feedback. Good luck with your army!
So a scar-veteran is just a saurus warrior.I was thinking of using a troglodon and two units of saurus warriors and just charging in and using primeval roar but I don't know if that would really work being that I'd have no magic
So scar-veteran is just a saurus warrior. And I was thinking about running a troglodon with to groups of 15 saurus warriors and just charging in and using primeval roar and try and wipe a lot of my opponents army out like that and use what survives to finish them off but. Don't know how that will work without having any magic
Yes, a Scar-Veteran is "older and more battle harden" Saurus warrior which have an added punch. I would not recommend using a Troglodon, at least not at lower point games, as you would need a lot of units in combat to get any real payoff from the roar. If you are planning to get a monster, either go for a Stegadon or a Salamander hunting pack. They will give you a lot more power for the points.
Ok so sorry for all the questions but how are you supposed to use skink skirmishers I've tryed playing a couple of games but they always die really easy
lol, yep dieing is one of their jobs, if they get into combat they will probaly die, as they are suposed to be shooting stuff instead, and occasionaly taking one for the team and get into combat with something in hopes of slowing it down long enough for something better can get there.
ok at the shop im playing at no one has ever really played and were starting a compation that starts at 300 points and works its way up to 2000 over the course of 2 months so for week one ; 20 saurse warriors (full command) and 10 skink skirmishers week 2 (500points): oxyotl, 20 saurus warriors (champion and standard baerer) and 10 temple guards week3 (750points): oxyotl, two units of 20 saurus warriors (champion and standard baerer) and a bastildon (with solar engine) week 4(1000points): skink priest level 2 (with seed of rebirth, cloak of feathers), skink priest (with spelltheveing sword, talsmen of protection) two units of 20 saurus warriors (champion and standard baerer) 10 skink skirmishers with 3 kroxigor does this sound pretty good any improvements would be helpful
Welcome to the forum! I'd recommend you give a look if you haven't done so already. After the overview you can look at the more specific Tacticas at your leisure. A Troglodon is not worthless, but they are widely viewed as our weakest unit and are difficult to use. I would certainly not recommend them for newbies, for Slann-less armies, or for armies < than 2500 points. I hadn't actually though of using Oxoytl in small points games. I think that would work. If nothing else you'll get a feel for using Scouts and protecting fairly mobile but squishy generals. Weeks 1 through 3 seem solid. Week 4 raises a lot of minor concerns. I would not recommend giving magic weapons to Skink priests. I would not recommend giving the Sword of Spellthieving to ANY character. I think the best character for a low points game is a Level Skink Priest with a dispel Scroll and a Ruby Ring Ruin. That's a lot of magical power for relatively few points. As soon as your games get big enough to allow two characters you probably want to use a Skink Priest general and a Scar Veteran Battle Standard Bearer. Lizardmen succeed or fail based on their BSBs and Scar Veteran BSBs are fairly durable and not too expensive. I don't think the Seed of Rebirth or Talisman of Protection will help much. If you want a defensive item I'd recomend the Opal Amulet. One save with a 50% chance of success will serve you better than multiple saves with a 17% chance of success (since Skink Priest only have two wounds you won't get many chances to roll).
