I've played warhammer on and off and owned a lizardmen army for the better part of a decade. I didn't play for a long while as my local gaming scene had shifted to 40k and warmahordes, however a few months ago a good friend bought himself a brettonian army and convinced me to start playing again. I promptly lost our first game, tabled by turn 3. :/ I lose to him very consistently now, but its usually a more close run thing. He told me with an air of smugness that he had signed up to a brettonian forum and learned all sorts of nasty tricks and tactics, so I'm here to even the playing field. Glad to be here, if you have any tips for beating brettonians then please share them!
Welcome to the forums! Sadly our Brettonian Tactica is a bit out of date, but it has some good nuggets in it. Lizardmen have a tough learning curve. The key to competitive play is to master using Skink redirectors and that takes a lot of practice. Against Brettonians you want to pull the enemy knights out of position to deny them the +2 Strength they get on the charge. If you can survive or prevent their charge round, the knights go down relatively easily. Knights have great armor saves and our best response is with magic. I'd recommend a Metal, Wandering Deliberations, or Focus of Mystery Slann. Use Searing Doom like it's going out of style. Spells like Final Transformation, Purple Sun, and Dwellers ignore armor saves altogether. Another trick you can do is to field a Skink Cohort with Skinks and Kroxigor. Most of the attacks of the enemy will be wasted on weakly Skinks and the Kroxigor can dish out Strength 7 hits which negate most of the enemy's armor save. Temple Guard hit almost as hard and give up casualties much slower. If you can keep your Salamanders from being run down by knights, they will devastate any peasant infantry. To counter the trebuchets you need to either use Chameleon Skinks, Terradons, and/or Rippers or use spells like Net of Amytok, Iceshard Blizzard, Pha's Protection, Earthblood, to either deny shots or mitigate damage. Pit of Shades or Purple Sun will auto-kill a Trebuchet with no dice roll or saves. You can also ignore them and power on through, entering close combat as quickly as possible. Hope that helps.
