So dust off all your 5th edition Skink Archers and Field a massive unit of them, using a Warscroll for archers from one of the goodguy/against chsos armies that has archers. The Aelf scroll is probably the best choice.
Such negitivity alot of the reviews and discussions about aos I've seen bash on it so much kinda sad all the issues I've seen brought up (points, balance ect) just re-state the same tired old arguments most had against 8th or any edition before just louder due to aos's simplicity is change really that evil of course i understand if u tried it and didn't like it that's fine your choice. i have high hopes for this game and want to see where it goes as far as our beloved lizards go its my belief they will endure the shift just fine albeit re-branded in name other than that i don't think much will change. the old ones built us tougher than anything an exploding planet can throw at us
No change is not necessarily evil, but it has to be the right change, like if the Lizardmen got destroyed, that would from my perspective be evil, but if some of the models got updated properly that would be a good change, it all depends on the context, and when it comes down to it, good and bad is really not something that exists, other that in our heads. The problem with AOS is not so much that there aren't any points system, but there is no real way to balance it, besides playing the campaign thingys, but that would get boring in the long run, which is why I think many people don't like it, because they just can't have a real competitive game.
Great points! I don't dislike AoS because it implemented grand changes, I dislike it because I believe those changes were extremely poor.
Guess my view is just different due to less experience in this game genre. You both bring up good points I'm just optimistic about it and want others to be as well. As far as lizard men being destroyed I highly doubt it(though I agree if they were to go I'd have no reason to play aos) we've been mentioned in both the new scenario books. Also didn't we get a fairly prominent rule in one of the black library shorts ( to broke to read it). New name doesn't bother me neither does our new classification as celestial deamons I like to explain it away as a kind of ascendence to better badassery.
If you're enjoying the game, then by all means keep doing so. It is a different type of game that will appeal to different people. I think a lot of the negativity stems from the fact that AoS arose from the death of Warhammer fantasy. It would have been interesting to see people's reaction/feelings towards AoS if it would have been a separate game in addition to 9th edition.
If by death you mean game play then I get it though if u mean fluff death that I'd have to disagree on. I see aos as war hammer fantasy the sequel in fluff sense but your right different things for different people
Officially it is a sequel, sure, but the lore is nonsensical gibberish. The old world was destroyed, yet it still exists for the elves to enter in order to capture Slaanesh, because apparently you can capture chaos gods now, and the lizardmen are demons with lightning for blood, and let us not even start talking about the space marines. Fantasy is dead, and the fluff died with it.
Agree to disagree for now need to catch up on my reading before I make any comments on the whole gods of the uber stuck up verses the herm god(dess?) thing. We bleed lightning? Sounds cool to me, being celestial beings of badassness fits my original view of lizardmen as all powerful paragons of order yeah the name change was unnecessary for any of the races but not much we can do about it besides just calling them the're old name. Ah the sigmarines obvious where they took the design from but that is their new poster boys for aos I mean if u look at it from a view of someone who has never seen or played war hammer before huge hulking demigod brutes in shiny armor is gonna be a bigger draw than say the mideval looking swordsmen of the Empire or the high elves
It was a better draw, that is why 40k is more popular. Making fantasy "40k-lite" is an inane concept, as after a while, all the 40k players will just return to 40k, the fantasy players will move to KoW, and AoS will be left with a tiny playerbase. As for the lightning for blood thing being cool... I mean, it would be "cool" if they suddenly became unstoppable and just won everything too, or if the slann all became gods, etc. It would also be really dumb. The problem is that the lizardmen don't have lightning for blood, and the lizardmen aren't demons, by making these changes, they might as well be a new faction.
People will play whatever Catches their fancy nothing gw will do is gonna change that. We're gonna have to wait and see if we get a fluff explanation for the change in anatomy, I actually doubt we'll get a satisfactory explanation but we'll have one
What i don't like about AOS is that it has become a skirmish game. No more games with big units or massive armies. the minute you get into close combat everything becomes a mess!!!
Yeah that is also one of my problems with it, I mean a skirmish game can be good(notice that I did not say that AOS was a good skirmish game (in my opinion that is)), but I would prefer an army game.
I'll never play Lizardmen without formation trays to make regiments. My army looks better that way (my Saurus Warriors all have spears on them) it simplifies the movement of those units. If I wanted to play a skirmish Lizardmen army, I might as well have started a Tyranid army in 40K.
Yeah, regardless of how many models are on the table, it is a skirmish game. For me, it just has too many apects i find totally rediculous from the point of realism (yeah, even in fantasy games there needs to be a certain realism imho). Moving out of combat for example, is quite possible for a single warrior, as long as he has mates covering his ass, however moving out of combat with entire units like you can in AOS is impossible in reality. Anyway, i will continue to play 8th (and most players here in Ankara will do that) or change to KoW if others will. Must admit though that this change to AoS certainly has revived my interest in historical wargames.
