I agree with the boltspitters. I bought 32 skinks with bows prior to the world exploding and I prefer the javelin+shield look on the modern sculpts over the blowpipes (still looks cool, but I like bows more!).

Battlemage and loremaster seem to work quite well in any order army. As pointed out by @InfamousBeany the jade and amber battlemage can be quite effective. Loremaster to get those extra re rolls on hits and wounds on a charavter like OB on Carno can be insane.
