Thanks!!! Glad you noticed, I used reference pictures of real frogs and reptiles to paint them. I'm specially proud of the coral snake, it's the only thing I didn't touched. The Slann colors are based on a real poisonous frog, except for the white belly. I felt that it needed a bit of contrast. The bastiladon design is based on picture I saw once, really liked it.
I am just echoing the praise of the previous two posts, but I love your slann! Beautifully painted, everything from the stonework, the poison-dart frog coloring on the slann, and the tiny frogs and little snake on his base! Please upload your picture into the Itza Gallery of Fine Arts, this slann definitely deserves a spot there! Edit: Also I didn't even realize that Bretonnian was echoing the book's army cover! Great job bringing the classic painting to life!
More new minis are finished! I even wonder how the hell I have been able to even grab a brush, but somehow I managed to finish my first Skylord! Hope you like him! Had a Huge problem with the barnish spray, it left a horrible white dust all over him. After panicking quite a lot I did some research and applied a coat of Gloss Varnish over the affected zones (It has to be thinner based paint, won't work with acrylic varnish) The gloss varnish dissolves the micro particles of dried matt varnish and gets rid of the effect. A thin coat of acrylic matt/satin varnish applied with a brush should get rid of the shine. Thanks for reading!
Really easy actually. This is the step by step guide: - Basecoat of Red (I use Vallejo Matt Red or Vermilion) - Shade with Agrax Earthshade - re-aply the red leaving the shade in the recesses - Highlight with: Wildrider red, Troll-Slayer Orange, Fire Dragon Bright, Yriel yellow and a small touch of Pallid Witch Flesh - Glaze with bloodletter - Add a small dot of white in the deepest shadow
Thanks for the steps, that is an amazing amount of detail! I love how you highlighted the terradon's face. Beautiful piece of work!
The colors of the Green skin of the terradon are done like this: - Basecolor: Elysian Green - Shade with Athonian Camoshade - Go back to Elysian Green - Shade certain areas with Biel-Tan Green - Highlight with Ogryn Camo - Glaze with Lamenters Yellow I decided when I got back to the hibby that I wouldn't mix paint to get the tones anymore, I just hate it
If your using GW paints it's already done for you but it does cost a fair bit to buy all the paints but I'm like you I hate mixing them and would rather have a goto system that works.
Yes GW system is very pricey, can't really tell you how much money I've spent on paints because I don't really want to know if I'm honest but the truth is that it works really well
Oh yes... I join the choir! These paints are not the cheap kind. But they work so much better than what I used before... I DON'T recommend cheap paint from the DIY stores... Though it says artist quality...
WHAT?!?! It happened the same to me and had no solution for it, so I stripped my 6-month long paintwork What varnish did you specifically use? I need to now for another unit that I made the same mistake but luckily I didn´t strip the paint off
I use this one: http://www.humbrol.com/uk-en/modelcote-gloss-cote-28ml-bottle.html you can judge for yourself the result. Halfo of the miniature was white almost. Try it, at least you have nothing to lose. Just make sure is Solvent based paint
