Hi guys. This blog is to be my space to show off my progress on my Salamander army for kings of war. I will also occasionally type out my thoughts on the project and its different facets. tonight I have some household things to attend to however, so i will keep this post short: currently primed salamanders and the skin basecoat on my test model.
Good start but just watch how much paint you put on per coat it's better to apply 2 thin coats than 1 thick coat, you get better coverage and crisper detail showing through.
Agree with @Crowsfoot . You could also apply a wash on the white primer to give it depth in one layer
Oh ok I thought it was a normal paint layer! Now that I look more closely I see the detail coming out!
I'll snap a new photo when I get home. So you can see the wash. That is a normal paint layer in the above photo.
Ok guys. While at lunch at work I figured I would detail a basic plan: This is a painting project generally. But I will be forming an army out of what I paint for games. Multibasing will be prevalent in the army. My first 3 boxes of salamanders ( of which I have 1) will get me 1 horde of primes, 1 Regiment of ancients and 2 regiments of ceremonial guard. I will be putting subtle differences into the paint schemes of each of the three unit types. Ceremonial guard will have spears made from brass rod most likely. Salamander unbloodied will not be in the army if I can help it as I think primes make more sense. I will be asking for the start collecting seraphon box for Christmas/my birthday. Any saurus warriors I get from this (not the knights, I need those) are free game for trade or sale. First dibs via pm. Once again, this is just a basic outline. More information and pictures to follow tonight.
It's quite a cool effect you have achieved with the brown! I like the finished result. I might just pick up some salamanders myself now... They're awesome!
Thanks! I've gotten a lot of different bone techniques over the years (my main army is undead) and I am glad you like the outcome.
Good paint job, ceep up the work! And I must say that it is nice to see some more actul mantic salamanders here in lustria.
Thank you very much! I will be making a new post tonight with some more photos and such. I apologize for the lack of updates guys. Sallies are a painting project for me until I finish the 2000 pts of varangur I have currently. It's why I was painting bloody northmen last night instead of salamanders.
while I thank you for the compliment Bowser, these are still some of my faster work. mainly because they are main line infantry. A sad thing is, due to the salamanders various components and the way they come together on a glued miniature, my pace is dictated by the geometry and placement of their extremities. This means, for the first time in my painting career, i am looking at painting 2 models at a time rather than four or five. Annoying, but what can you do? Anyway, here is a current shot of my progress on sallies 2-3, at stage 1 of completion out of 6 (not including the banner special work, meaning flames.) the only reason they are only on stage one is because I produce a newsletter for my local SCA chapter, and I was also gluing a new toy that arrived (nagash) I will be opening another blog to showcase my non lizardmen related painting.
So I did a partially impulse related thing at my local store today. I am Hoping my excess stuff sells now...
