Hello Everyone. Thought I would Share My Progress as I work on Painting my Lizardmen Collection. Start things off with my Oldblood On Carnosaur WIP
Additionally, I am painting my lizards in a very cartoonish style with bright colorful highlights and dark shadows and I am having trouble getting the contrast to register on the computer. Any advice on taking pics of this kind of style would be appreciated.
Nice work i dont have pictures takeing advice but im sure @Crowsfoot would dont forget to add this lovely model and all your future work to the fine art gallery once completed
Very nice work on the carno + oldblood. I love the basing, it looks very natural. Is that lichen that you used?
My iphone6 @NIGHTBRINGER The tree trunk is a piece of cork bark that you get from pet stores for reptile habitats. Lot thicker than processed cork you find in wine bottles. I painted that to look like some kind of oak tree then covered it with fake moss from the local craft store. All the pictures of jungles that I saw showed a lot of moss everywhere so I figured a decaying tree trunk would be no different.
Go and get the camera+ app you can then crop etc. Google, taleofpainters, how to take photos with a smart phone
Carno looks awesome and basing looks great. One thing to note about corkbark is that it is usually very dusty and dirty when you purchase it, so cleaning before spraying is a must. Also cork bark is a well known carrier of banana spiders and other scary venomous spiders, so cleaning may literally save your life. I've found three banana spiders, and two different species of tarantulas hiding deep in the crevices of cork bark pieces that were all purchased from totally different pet stores. I suggest a soak in hot bleach water for a few hours to kill any crawlies hiding in it. Do this outside so anything that crawls out doesn't escape into your home and murder you in your sleep on a later date. Then give it a good scrub under the tap with a toothbrush or other fine bristled brush to knock any loose dirt left over from the soak. Let dry for a couple days or bake in the oven on its lowest setting for an hour to dry out your bark and then you've got clean, spider free cork bark that's ready to be based. I don't suggest people skip any of these steps above, but at the end of the day it's your bark, and your butt whose going to get dragged into the hospital should something go wrong
This looks awesome! Base is incredible! For better pics build a lightbox. Easy enough to find video tutorials.
I built a lightbox and tried to take some pics again. Here is what maybe the finished oldbood? I never know when to stop. For now Im done with him but I may come back and do more work later on.
Yeah the lightbox really lets this model stand out. Fantastic looking. I would say stop, you will never be finished, as the more perfect it gets, the more your definition of perfect changes. It's absolutely gorgeous with great detail.
Looks great so far, I think as your skill improves you should go back and add more but if you don't it still looks fantastic
