For General 40k, no. There may be some specific ones out there that aren't bad. Warpshadow used to be pretty good a few years back, but I haven't frequented it in a few years.

Hey. Some of us cut our internet teeth using 28.8k modems...

@Ritual DakkaDakka ain't bad. I've lurked in forums since back in the PyramidVault days so bad layouts/formats/etc don't bother me. There are a few users that I'm fairly certain are sentient piles of particularly vocal sodium chloride, but once you figure out who to listen to and who to ignore there's a lot of good stuff there. For general 40k it's where I lurk.

For army specific things I go to Bolter and Chainsword. They focus mainly on Space Marines but there's sub-forums for other Imperial armies and Chaos. If you're looking for Xenos stuff you're out of luck though.

I've been watching a lot of youtube videos of 8th edition games. It seems like GW were kind enough to give a lot of my favourite battle reporters advance copies, and I gotta say I'm super excited. There's still a few things I'm not totally sold on but overall this seems like a really good edition.

Nice. I love the Custodes. Next to admech they're the only Imperial army I'm interested in, and Stormcast seem to be pretty much on-par in terms of size which makes for some cool conversion opportunity.

The new 40k campaign is soon upon us, and it's looking pretty sweet.

The forces of chaos will try to corrupt and conquer the Konor system, but the Emperium will not let that happend. This Campaign will mainly feature the forces of chaos fighting the emperium, but the xenos races can also participate. The xenos can choose who they wish too fight for, and they can always swicth their allegiance.

What is your agenda? Do you wish to despoil this jewel of the emperium, or do you wish to protect it with all your might?

    The Konor system.

(let's pretend GW accidentally didn't leak how it ends, and that it is rigged from the begining)

I got hopeful reading this, it looked like it would be interesting if the community at large would actually be able to influence how the fate of the fluff turned out. Until I read the disclaimer, then my dreams were dashed :sour:

My current biggest issue is debating what weapon profiles to go with for my dudes. I am thinking Plasma rifle (x3) and Frag cannon (x2) per unit of 5. I'd have two units of these which could be merged into a unit of 10 if required, though probably not. The plasma guys to do some damage but mainly to die before the frag cannons drop.

Then I'd have a super mobile mixture unit of 10 in a corvus which'd get dropped behind enemy lines to do some damage. There's a nice pre-packaged kill team which you can get which covers off the bases of getting the bike and terminator in the squad from the get go for the bonuses.

I need to get my hands on the rule book again to read up though. Mainly just said that double power swords isn't an option anymore.

GW wins based on the fact they've sold out of the starter kits and are having trouble producing enough to keep up with orders!

    Restock anticipated around the 24th.

    This book right here.

It mentions the Konor campaign, and tells that Konor get's saved by the emperium.

Given that Imperium as an in-game faction is bigger than ALL THE XENOS COMBINED and at least double the size of Chaos I'd say they were poised to win from the beginning. I'm still keen to participate and can't wait to get my hands on that starter kit.

In fairness, that'd only be helpfull if the imperium could concentrate all its forces on a specific threat. In between having to fight on multiple fronts, to the point where basicly everything is a front, the fronts being literally astronomical distances from eachother and the bureaucratic mess that is the imperium it's not like they ever come even close to fielding their full strength against any given threat.

Also, with the whole grimdark setting the "bad' guys got a good bit of plot armor. After all the "good" guys may never do more than hold the incoming tide while slowly being overwhelmed. If they actually manage to push the tide back it's not all that grimdark anymore... in that aspect it actually sort of surprises me the empire gets to save the system with more than a phyric "well the system's been annihilated but at least there's no chaos forces left either"
