Yup they were broke like a bunch of unassembled legos :hurting:; I was too disappointed to take a picture of the "before" state.

Thankfully they healed right up, they just need a small amount of brown paint to cover up some of the cracks.

Sorry to hear about the trebuchets - There's only one thing I can say about that...

But I'm very glad you've got them back together again - They look great!

Working on a new project: here there be dragons.

My brother cast pieces of the high elf dragon a while back; his plan is to make it look like the huge flying creatures from Avatar:
    warden'sbrother201705_avatar last shadow.jpg

He gave me some extra pieces, plus the mold to cast the wings.

Progress so far on the wings casting process:

That is exactly what they are. My plan is to make a "zombie dragon," but one that isnt made of just straight up bones. I wanted to make something evil for my Bretonnians to face off against that isnt part of the Lizardmen army, and I am hoping I can get some skeletons someday.

    More playing with magnets today:

    warden201705_dragon WIP 02.jpg

I got him glued to the side of a small mausoleum in front of a cemetery. The clay bricks help make sure the base is heavier than the model itself so it wont tip over. My magnets weren't quite strong enough to hold him to the side of the structure, so I glued him on for now. I can always find another way to do it someday, and this guy is just a giant test model anyway!

Before assembly, these are the main pieces my brother gave me from his casting experiments to play with:

    warden201705_dragon WIP 01.jpg

I added the tongue and the teeth, makes him kind of look like a viper. I am happy with the casting quality as well, its pretty good detail.

    warden201705_dragon WIP 03.jpg
It was a good thing I cast the holes into the wings, because they were really heavy; almost too heavy for the power-10 hobby magnets I purchased.I wound up having to make them smaller later, but the wingspan looks so impressive!

    warden201705_dragon WIP 04.jpg

    warden201705_dragon WIP 05.jpg
I made the end of its tail magnetic, so that it is slightly easier to transport.

    Few more WIP pics:
Added spikes to his tail and back:

    warden201705_dragon WIP 09.jpg

And some more pictures of his wings, cut a bit smaller so they don't fall off every few seconds. Now they are light enough that they can be held up by the magnets without any issues.

    warden201705_dragon WIP 11.jpg

    warden201705_dragon WIP 12.jpg

    Pretty good experiment!

    warden201705_dragon WIP 10 epic.jpg

I may magnetize a rider as well, maybe a skeleton knight, but I am hoping that if I cast the pieces correctly he will just fit into the saddle in front of the wings without any extra work.

Just spray painted the dragon, and he looks good.

    warden201705_dragon WIP 13 spraypaint.jpg
    warden201705_dragon WIP 14 spraypaint.jpg

I will be taking a break before I paint him (and build his rider), but here are my ideas for painting:
My initial idea was to make something like this, out of the last page of the Bretonnian army book. The dragon is obviously a conversion of the old lizardmen carnosaur, with some fantastic alterations to the model to make it an epic dragon.

    IMG_5461.JPG

I was thinking of doing something similiar with the color scheme, but maybe a bit more "fiery" in color like this one:

    IMG_5342.JPG

But I also want to use this dragon in a future undead army, so I will need to plan it to make it fit. And to make a suitably epic rider.

    Still coming up with ideas.

Are these trebs all scratch builds? Curious to see what kind of jars they were stored in also. Jars are round...and small?

I think if I ever try scratch building a treb or a rock lobber that I will try using wood.

Yup, all scratch builds. I cast a clay model I made and made a bunch out of white resin. Worked really fast, I would have considered making them out of wood but I wanted them all to look the same. Plus they were my first casting project; a bit rough but I was pleased with the results.

And they were much cheaper than the GW alternative :wacky:

    Trebuchet WIP 1.5.jpg

    Trebuchet WIP 1.jpg

    Trebuchet WIP 2.jpg

They were actually stored in (cleaned out) peanut butter jars I had leftover, but i neglected to put any kind of padding or foam inside of them to cushion the fall when they fell out of my closet.

I have been working on my Bretonnian terrain a bit lately, because it was sorely lacking, and was inspired by some glorious images from the old Bretonnian 5th ed book Perilous Quest to make some of my own jousting-themed terrain!

    Jousting Terrain Pieces
    :

I had a few ideas that I haven't made yet, but for now I have some army-camp tents, a few weapons racks, three center joust-fences, a campfire, and a hangman's noose stand. I also finally painted the peasant archer stakes I had sitting in my army box.

    warden201706_jousting terrain WIP 06.jpg

    warden201706_jousting terrain WIP 08.jpg
Most of these pieces were made of foam board, little wooden dowels cut up into pieces, and leftover weapons bits, plus some cast resin shields.

    warden201706_jousting terrain WIP 01.jpg

Painting in progress shot, just added the wash to make the base look more muddy.

    warden201706_jousting terrain WIP 03.jpg

    Jousting Tents:

Also made some custom jousting tents. In the Perilous Quest book, they actually provided cardboard cutouts. Mine are just paint and paper (nice and cheap). They are matching heraldry with my Lustrian Bretonnians.

    The larger, Royal Pavilion tent:

Back and side of the pavilion:

    warden201706_jousting tents WIP 12 pavilion back.jpg

    warden201706_jousting tents WIP 13 pavilion side.jpg
What the tents looked like before they were folded and glued together:

    warden201706_jousting tents WIP 09.jpg

I have posted a few more pictures over at the Round Table, and will be posting some group photos soon!

    Awesome work!
Just one thing, I´d add something to represent rope at the top of the fire place so the sticks are actually held and not resting each other, specially if they carry the weight of that cauldron. Other wise, love your terrain!

I did enjoy making the dragon, I just have to assemble the pieces for the rider before I start painting him now. Hoping to make him a nice wight-lord with some dragon-wings on his helmet.

That is a fantastic idea, I missed that detail and it would be very easy to do with a bit of wire. I will be going back to fix that shortly.

For now... some group photos of all my jousting terrain!

    warden201706_the lustrian joust 01.jpg

Very happy with how they look so far.

    The joust commences!

    warden201706_the lustrian joust 06.jpg

Biggest thing I need to ask is does anyone have any idea of how I can harden the paper on the tents without damaging them too much? One of the flaws of using paper instead of cardboard was while it is super easy to paint and assemble, the paint didn't necessary harden them enough that they would be safe from damage in transport.

Is anyone familiar with some kind of hobby-spray that would work to harden the paper to a degree? Like something that could be used to harden paper banners. Best thing that my wife came up with was maybe using some modge-podge.

Weapons racks, ready for the men-at-arms:

Defensive Stakes for my peasant archers:

    warden201706_the lustrian joust 08.jpg

I am not happy with how the coals turned out on the arrow-burners, when I figure out a different technique to use I will try it. All I did was give it an orange wash and attempt to blacken/highlight with grey.

    the Hangman's noose:

    warden201706_the lustrian joust 11.jpg

The gallows would also work for a western-themed set piece at the moment, but I will eventually add some plastic shields once I cast some more, just to add more color :artist:
