Just beginning to think about how I'm going to base my lizards. Usually just use the standard sand/gravel with ink and a bit of flock/static grass. Anyone got any tips that work well with lizards that aren't too complicated! Not wanting to do water though. Cheers
I had a similar problem and ended up buying cobbled stone resin bases for mine. They were alot cheaper than I expected them to be and make my lizardmen stand out from my other armies. Might be worth having a look and see if you can find some resin bases that catch your eye.
I got them from this website; http://daemonscape.co.uk/index1.html The ones I use are the "Cobble Stone" bases. They do all sizes and are pretty cheap. The other place I was going to order from is here; http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/ They have lots of different style bases but found that they didn't look very easy to position my models on so settled on the others plus they were quite a bit cheaper for all the bases I needed.
In terms of bases I took the simplest route available. For regular models(Saurus and the likes) it's simply sand+paint and the odd stone or plant. For other models(Aquatic ones like skinks) I added water. Cheers!
What I've been doing for my lizzies is, after painting the edge of the base brown, (So much easier to do it before than after ) put down a layer of the dirt flock, followed by a layer of the fine grit, and finally doing patches on the base with static grass. The dirt/grit combination gives a nice soft-earth feel to the base, and the patches of grass, I think, make it look swampy, since you can see the 'squishy' ground through the grass. Just my 2¢ K-P
