Is there even any point of this being called a Star Trek vs Star Wars thread anymore? Might as well be called the Star Wars discussion thread with poll to show how much we prefer Star Wars or something

I see your point - you'd better ask @NIGHTBRINGER as not only did he introduce the thread in the first place, he also orchestrated the derailment towards the thread being Star Wars-exclusive.

    Did somebody say Star Trek???

This game looks really neat! I have been interested in the Star Wars tabletop game for some time now but I never invested in anything. As I am a bigger fan of Star Trek, this game looks interesting to me!

I saw a good tutorial on 3D tabletop terrain for a deep-space game like this, with 3D planets suspended over the star-map board for the ships to fly around. If I can find the link I will have to post it.

Until then, here is a movie I want to go see:

I've finally said Star Trek in the actual vote because there is no bias towards one specific era in Trek, whereas in Star Wars so many people who saw the originals as children in the 70s go on about how they are supposedly the best that companies who deal in Star Wars merchandise have near-solely focussed on producing stuff for the Original Trilogy to cater for that larger fanbase - look at Fantasy Flight Games, for example. Every Star Wars game they have done is set in the Original Trilogy, except for X-Wing which is also based in the Sequel Trilogy and Rogue One (but they still miss the prequels out), Armada which is based in Rogue One as well (although misses out both prequels and sequels) and Destiny (which was only very recently released and I don't think has premiered in many retailers yet).

Star Trek, on the other hand, has primarily remained unbiased towards any particular era.

    Well, fans are biased.
I am also a fan of the TNG era and I am kinda angry they rebooted the franchise instead of going on where TNG/DS9/Voyager and the Picard movies ended (even though Nemesis was dire).

But I agree that from the IP holders point of view they really don't seem to be biased. There is a lot of stuff being released covering all the eras. And at least they used an in-universe explanation to tie the prequel stuff in instead of retconning 40 years of beloved stories into nirvana. I am still angry about what they did to Star Wars in that regard.

That's true. Don't get me wrong there was some pretty bad stuff in the EU, but there were also quite a few gems. I understand why they did it though, so much of the timeline was already complete that there wasn't that much new stuff they could add in terms of the main story line.

I just hope that one day they make a movie featuring Darth Bane. I know it is unlikely to happen, but I hope none the less.

They are bringing some stuff back. Thrawn's already been brought back both on Rebels and with a novel (and another in the works) by Timothy Zahn. Just because it's not currently part of the Canon doesn't mean they've forgotten about it

Thrawn was a character who was saved by fans of the EU, but I'm unsure of whether Disney would consider bringing back any EU characters in the Sequel Trilogy. If they had brought Thrawn into the Sequel Trilogy, he would have improved the originality of the story, especially if he was the main villain, as for once we wouldn't have an evil Force-user.

Well, we are still unsure of whether Rian Johnson's new films will be set after the Sequel Trilogy (Episodes 10-12) or before the prequels. If they are set in the latter era, we could very well see Darth Bane. One near-certainty is that they won't be set between Episodes 3 and 4 because that's already covered by Rebels, Rogue One, Solo and the last Anthology film, hopefully going to be about Obi-Wan, so we can scratch that option from the list.

I love the character Thrawn. Timothy Zahn's trilogy was very good. Thrawn was very good in Rebels in my opinion as well.

Darth Bane's story takes place 1000 years prior to the main Star Wars movies. I'm not sure if Disney will be that bold as to deviate so far from their established movie timeline.
