The movie does definitely suffer from quite a few pitfalls (from a certain point of view... a.k.a), but I still enjoyed it. There are quite a few things which I would have done differently, but many great moments as well. For spoilers sake, I don't want to say much more. I'll probably create a new SPOILER thread for those of us who have seen it, and people can join in once they get an opportunity to see the film.
aka: everyone that must still see the film, will suffer greatly knowing that a discussion is going on. The dark side is strong with @NIGHTBRINGER .
Yeah that's really hard. And hard to steer clear off. For example if you use the "recent activity" thing you might be spoiled without even reading the thread because you see posts from it. ...I think. Some forums show the beginning of posts in the search results or so.
Ok Spoiler free thoughts about people who have said stuff about Ep8: Wtf?? seems that quite a lot of people really hated it! I mean: yeah there was some not so great stuff in it, but... wow. This is the order of magnitude I have only seen for JarJar and Ewoks. Others only accept critique that praises it as the best one EVAR. People know only extremes it seems. Another strange thing: all those theory crafters seem to be REALLY sore losers. They were all wrong and now they make hours of videos trying to fit the movie to their absurd theories instead of accepting they were wrong.
I can safely say that it is easily not the worst Star Wars movie (Episode 1) and easily not the best Star Wars movie (Episode V). I think these extreme opinions are a symptom of one factor in the movie... it is different. Like it or not, it takes some bold risks and runs with it.
Pretty much. For me it is very strange to see such disproportionate hate though. Like with the Ewoks or JarJar. It didn't bother me enough then. It sure does now.
I think that hate was justified with the Ewoks and especially in the case of Jar Jar. This one however is a bit more surprising.
It's the rule of the internet, you either love a thing too death, or you want too beat that thing too death, no inbetween.
I've been to see it and my verdict: It was very good! Much better story than 7 - My faith in Rian Johnson doing the new trilogy has greatly increased. As @NIGHTBRINGER says, it does make some brave moves, and that is what I praise it for. Certainly I feel 8 is much better than 7, 6, 5 and 4. I'm updating my 'Favourite Star Wars films and Characters' thread now to incorporate it.
For me it is roughly as good. I think I would just barely place it above Rogue One but that's because of the characters. Poe Rey BB8 and Finn as well as my old heroes Luke Leia R2 Chewie and C3P0 are just better for me than the bunch of guys I hardly remember the names of and then they died.
I reckon it was just as good as Rogue One and may well have been better if it wasn't for one specific scene that was a little too creative and a little bit silly. I won't reveal which scene it is yet because I don't want to reveal any spoilers for anyone. It is certainly in the top tier of Star Wars films for me along with Episodes 1-3 and Rogue One and is the best of the Sequel Trilogy so far. There were a good many surprises for me in it, including the return of one of the most beloved Star Wars characters ever - I expect you know who I mean @NIGHTBRINGER !
EDIT: By now I really avoid YT videos and other people talking about Star Wars. MAN that's a lot of hate! Almost-Spoiler ahead, don't read if you are super scared although I will remain vague. . . . . . . I am very sad about the death of one minor character of the series. He is only mentioned briefly but it made me really sad to hear he didn't make it.
Saw it yesterday; it had some cool scenes (no spoilers here ) but also some awkward ones that kept dragging me out of the moving and ruining my suspension of disbelief confused. Overall I agree with my uncle and my wife: between a low B- and a high C+. I shall now move over to the star wars movie ranking thread and sort out my life.
