Work has begun on a slightly more "futuristic" scale: the Luftwaaagh! Its hard to make out, but that is an ork pilot. The base of the casting are all parts from the ork deffkopta (death-copter to those not fluent in orkish) with two big-shootas mounted on the front above the engine block. Spoiler: orky WIPs Some test color schemes. Eventually if I can cast as many as 10 (two units of 5) then I can have an entire flying circus of orky biplanes! Here is the test plane basecoated, this one will probably be Evil Sunz red to start things off. This project should be a nice addition to my modest ork force, which has languished in ork-limbo since page 3 of this thread. Lots of more work to do!
I did more painting last night to bring this dude (and his high-flying ride) to life: This ork plane is a huge departure from anything I have painted before, all that red and yellow flames! I am used to painting more green. I have to add/fix more checker-patterns and metallic paints, and some mud for the ruined-city base. The base was a quick job; I have the normal deffkopta base but I wanted to add a little more height to the mini. My idea is to get a bunch more planes and have it look like they are all flying over a ruined city-scape together. The plane is magnetized to the base for ease of transport. Then I want to learn some rust-paint techniques and weathering for the planes wings. Spoiler: ork biplane more piks Future plans/ideas: 10x Ork biplanes (two units of 5x deffkoptas) Ruined building terrain Farmfields/trenches (mimicking a WWI-esque landscape?) Ork bomber (WWI German “Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI” bomber) Maybe an ork zepplin
Looks awesome! I love the concept and the execution. The pedant in me would like to point out, however, that it isn't actually biplane. It's a triplane. Biplanes have two wings, triplanes have three.
And I thought biplane was used to refer to all kind of planes with multiple wings and did say nothing...
Yep... you are 100% correct, I have been working on a triplane this whole time and it wasn't until your message that I realized my mistake ! Thanks that gave me a good laugh
Along with other projects I have been busy today rebasing my knights of the realm: I decided to paint my movement trays with the heraldry of all the individual knights. Its making the project take longer, but I enjoy painting the heraldry. This will also ensure that I have the correct knight in the right location when I rank them up (so that way everyone will fit). Spoiler: WIP
A lot of work! But in the end it will look awesome. Back then an army of knights was pretty colorful.
That is probably one of the best ideas I have ever seen! Not only does it look amazing but it would be really helpful for ordering your men so you don't have to remember at a pinch. Unfortunately it wouldn't work with Dwarfs or any of the other armies I collect, but I get by by painting the number of the unit's position underneath the base - F1 for 1st man in the front, B3 for the 3rd man in the back row and so on.
I just write numbers... starting with the guy on the left front (1) way back to the guy on the back right (n*x ; with n being the number of ranks and x the number of rows)
Thanks for the compliments! The movement trays turned out pretty good, I am glad the new knight bases turned out so well. It was a project long in coming (two years+ ) so I am glad it is finally complete! Freshly painted bases, just before the knights were added: All four units of my Knights Templar and Knights of the Realm.
While rebasing my mounted knights I also put together a new batch of custom foot knights. Each one wears the heraldry of another mounted knight in the army. They are looking alright so far, a bit more basing is in order.
I don't have any full army shots of these knights based yet, but I did take a bunch of broad army photos of my Bretonnians prior to starting this new basing project at the start of the month, same time I took some of my Lizardmen. They look nice as a big group! I have most of the Bretonnian pictures up over at the Round Table. I aspire to taking another set of army-wide pictures once I finally have all my Bretonnians fully based. This includes painting my last two units: my Questing Knights and my Grail Knights. Slowly but surely!
