Well I'm curious if anyone has tried painting obsidian? I've painted my lizards to look like they came from the Volcanic Islands. You know lots of reds, oranges and yellows. Howerever, when I started painting the the EotG, a stone-grey Howdah looks bad on top of a red Stegadon, and gold or silver didn't look much better. However, after I cleaned the paint off, rebuilt and re-primed it I test fit it to the Stegy and the black looks real nice. So any ideas on painting obsidian besides just chaos black then gloss finish? Thanks in advance! The pinkskink
Chaos Black + gloss finish is the best bet for Obsidian, since there's really not much else to it. Perhaps if you're up for a bit of a challenge, though, you could add some marble veins using Codex Gray, Astronomican Gray, and/or Fortress Gray, etc.
Who said obsidian has to be polished and "nice", you couldmake it more stony by using different shades of greys.
Asrodrig is spot on, maybe with a few sharp white highlights. Obsidian is natural volcanic glass so its not polished but is glassy so it is natually shiny, like flint when broken or worked, its actually clear but because of its composition the thicker the obsidian the blacker it appears, along the fine sharp edges thoug it does appear clear, an effect that can be achieved with several coats of gloss varnish.
