AOS may not be that bad after all...

I know is this is a contentious subject, but:

Having got back into GW late 2016 after a 20+ odd year break I was gutted to find AoS had replaced WFB.

In the 80s, I loved the environment that WFB existed in (and later 40k). It was deeply tragic but with splashes of humour and full of character and depth. It was something that I wanted to be part of.

On my return, AoS felt hollow and something that I could not (for fantasy) associate with. Regardless, I picked my army (guess what - Seraphon/lizardmen ) and gave it a shot, but focusing on the building and painting and put the backstory to one side.

However, a year and a bit in I feel things are changing. The backstory is more grounded and a story is begining to unfold. It's not as conceptual, almost quasi religious, but about the soldiers and minor characters that I can associate with; almost like WFB.

Malign Portents is a good example.

So what?

I think the background to AOS could get as interesting at WFB. I'm not talking rules, just the fantasy realm.

Haters gonna hate, but I love the mini stories that have come out for MP, they're interesting, add depth and give some real insight into what's going on in the world.

 

If one of you comes and plays me AND I enjoy the game, I'll consider making an army for it.

I'm still staunchly against it. To be fair I have only played one game and that was when it first came out. I'm willing to give it one more 2 hour session to make a penultimate decision

 

To be fair, I was only talking about the world in which AOS exists is getting interesting. The AOS game is, as the kids say, a bit Meh.

 

If I wasn’t busy doing Fantasy stuff right now, I would be tempted to start either Fyreslayers or Kharadron Overlords but as I say I’m still trying to get stuff for my Fantasy armies before GW age-of-sigmarise everything by giving all the kits round bases.

 

There are other ways to get square bases

 

I know, but getting them from fantasy kits isn’t so much easier than having to go all the way to my local GW to use their in-store order point...

 

Other companies also produce square bases, and I've been told that they do so for a fraction of a cost that GW charges.

 

That may be, but GW is most convenient for me...

 

I'm sure you can order them online, and then have them shipped right to your door. Seems pretty lazy to me!
