Need help with a simple technique to make a swampish base for my lizardmen. In particular I'm looking for a way to get a nice water-effect on my bases. I've heard something about nail-polish or something like that? Help please! --DF2K
You have to be very careful with nail polish since the acetate has a habit of melting paint and occasionally plastic. PVA glue and inks or maybe even thin paints are your best bet. The PVA glue should dry fairly clear and look somewhat shiny. When I made water, it was beach water so won't work exactly the same for you, I mixed a tiny bit of blue ink into the pva glue to give it a light blue tinge and applied it directly onto sand. Looks good but way too clean for a swamp. You might want to try a dark/dirty green to get the effect you are looking for. Key thing to remember is only a very very small amount of colour is needed to make the colour show up, and if it is too faint you can always ad another slightly thicker layer on top after it dries. I suggest you grab a few spare bases and just mess around with a few different techniques and ideas until you find one you like.
if you want it to be a solid color mix whatever you want into the snow basing material with a bit of pva glue and put it on that way it will be a little bit thicker so you can shape it.
