I wrote it up around 5am yesterday and it all seemed to add up correctly. Two EotGs seem ok for 3k. If people can take 3 Hydras and multiple Dragons and still try to argue that it isn't cheesy then I can take 2 EotGs, a Slaan and a Carnosaur Oldblood and easily claim the same thing. The only thing that stands out are the low Saurus numbers (down from 18 each at 2k) and a small number of cavalry. (Albeit they're only going to be used for hunting small units, monsters and character units or protecting the EotGs and/or Slaan) I'm not sure what my main opponents could be. They could range from DE or WE to WoC and Daemons. I am apprehensive about taking some units, though. Kroxigors and Terradons are BLOODY expensive. £12 and £10 resepectively PER MODEL. If I want to get 3 Kroxigors, it'll cost me £36 which could be used to get 32 more Saurus or 20 more Temple Guard or a mix of both, or even around 16 more Cavalry, a second Slaan, another Steg... It's the same for Terradons, an optimal unit of 3 or 4 sets me back £30-£40 quid. Being a college student, i'm worried about cash, and most of my armies are centred around what I get as Birthday/Christmas gifts, so unless you can convince me that i'll use either of these units effectively and often enough to be a good investment, then they're completely off-limits.
Terror tests all round! I agree with you. At 2k a slann and two EotG is a little cheesy, but at 3k I think it's acceptable. Even with a super slann and carn. I seem to always go for a different school of thought about this game. I think that tactical use of infantry can beat any super monsters or super cheesed out characters so I am not a fan of only having 50 saurus in 3k. I plan on running 60 (40 saurus and 20 TG) at 2k. Also, at 3k you have no march blockers! With your limited numbers and low march rate you're going to be doomed to being out flanked by faster armies. I would drop the scar vet for terradons. The scar vet is a nice to have but not required model in this army and the weapon he has is kind of useless as he is unlikely to face much that has more than 1 wound (it does two wounds right? I don't have my book in front of me.) Like I said before (I am reiterating because I think it's super important) I don't think you have enough infantry. Monsters are nice, super characters are fun but nothing makes up for sheer numbers of elite infantry. I would reconsider the amount of points you're spending on characters and get more saurus.
What would the terradons give me that is worth their stupidly high prices? I'm not really prepared to shell out 40 quid for 4 models that I find don't live up to expectations. Unless I can be convinced otherwise i'm saving my cash for something else.
Like I saidbe ready to be out flanked and wiped out by superior numbers of infantry. You're only real hope I think is march blockers and terradons are perfect for that, if you want a cheaper route (I have no idea what a quid is...) chameleon skinks are 3 for $15...
you could just buy some plastic pterodactyls... there should be enough in toy stores, and way cheaper. mount a skink on them and find a way to put them on a flying base... unless you want them in a "landed" position wich would also work.
First of all a quid is a british pound and second you can make chameleon skinks out of the skink set just check out the painting and modeling forum also you can make salamanders out of khorne flesh hounds easily to save lots of £££
Terradons are the most flexible, valuable unit in the LM army. Disposable units of 3 terradons are fantastically useful. I would take at least two units of three, if not three units. The choice is made easier for me thanks to having traded for one. I'm much more a fan of evasive shooty units than big, slow, plodding units of saurus but your list does look strong. Be sure to pair up an engine with your carno and an engine with your cavalry and combo charge things. The TG will look great, but 20 is a huge unit so if you need to chisel some points of that's where you should start. I've been considering the piranha blade - charge, challenge and rack up CR with 2x wound overkill.
If you're craft with green stuff you could always make cool flying skinks and proxy them as terradon riders... http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat1300205&rootCatGameStyle=
