Okay so I am completely new to the forum, so bare with me.

This will include other AOS, 40k, and even scale models, I know it's not all lizardmen but I hoped I could share my work.

Going to try log my painting of a Troglodon for you guys, I'm already quite far into the project so here is some images of the finished skink rider.

I love the patterning on the Oracle and the colours on the Troq look quite good, don't often see green. Not sold on the eyes at all though, they throw me off a bit. They're nicely painted but i dunno, it's supposed to be blind and such starkly obvious eyes detracts from that a bit imo.

    Cheers man.
I've had some mixed response over the eyes. Its a marmite situation, one side it breaks all the lore and looks unusual, other people like the addition.
    Appreciate the feedback though.

Very fine brush and a steady hand. I believe I painted the green first then added small white lines to represent the outlines of scales. There is a very inspiring user on this forum who does a while tutorial, I cant remember his account name. I Know his instagram is @bgowing86
    Thanks

Compared to your amazeskink oracle skin (forgive me the pun, please), imho his tiara / mask lacks depth and highlight. Could be swallowed by the lighting or the camera though.

    Thanks

I find metallics pretty difficult to make interesting, I've had some people say it it could do with being brighter. I think once everything is together it shouldn't look too bad. I might go back and glaze some brighter paints, but for now I'll see how it pans out once attached to his mount.

    Thanks for the C&C

Yeah, often times metallics look good, but I think in this case, your freehand skin is 1 op notch, but the metallics aren't. I dunno if you are into NMM and capable of it, but I guess it would look more harmonic. On the other hand, TMM can look fantastic, with the right techniques and paints. Take this for example http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2010/02/tutorial-painting-true-metallic-metal.html?m=1
This is by far not the best TMM i've ever seen, but Imho, the potential exceeds your actual state. Don't take this as nagging, I just think you have great potential as a painter, so the Trog does too. Keep on the good work!

I've Never properly tried NMM, I like the idea and look of it, but I also know it will take ages to perfect. As for my TMM I've got to agree that its a little lack lustre, I assume the light will do all the work, but there is alot more to it. I'm thinking of investing in some inks, so glazing shadows will be much easier, as well as new metallics with finer metallic fleks. I've heard vallejo metal air gives a very smooth finish, but I'm also tempted to try some scale75 paints :banghead:.

I'll take your advice and try my best to focus on improving my TMM, the article seems nice and in depth so I'll give it a look.
Shame I've just finished the gold/brass on the Troglodon :banghead:

    Thanks

Vallejo are really good, another colour supplier I prefer by now would be https://www.warcolours.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=98&search=metallics . The outcome of using those paints could be described as "genuine metal". I enjoy them and have seen miniatures online, that looked like their metal parts really were made of metal. They are higly pigmented, gel-like, can be diluted and the ink range is awesome. Ink example: http://www.lustria-online.com/attachments/img_20181229_163308-jpg.52252/ something from someone else: https://mobile.twitter.com/olivierrazoux/status/1060945869955051525

    Hi all

Got another Troglodon update. I've actually manged to complete the Troglodon himself, but I am yet to do the display base. Overall I'm very pleased with the result as this was a very difficult porject. I dont usually like doing large organisms, I find vehicles much easier.

Here are some pics, C&C is always welcome...
    IMG_20190714_212748.jpg IMG_20190714_212712.jpg IMG_20190714_212735.jpg IMG_20190714_212645.jpg IMG_20190714_212524.jpg IMG_20190714_212554.jpg IMG_20190714_212829.jpg IMG_20190714_212623.jpg

I'll have more updates to the blog once I've finished the base.

    Thanks

Be that as it may, but I would love to see some more 'large organisms' from you sir :pompus: :cigar:

I guess I would have to agree with Workschmock about the gold being the weakest part of the model, but I should also add that I don't think it's bad at all, just that it seems more flat in comparison to the rest of the model. Maybe a darker base gold would do the trick, allowing more contrast? - Just an idea.

I think I will try to replicate your work somewhat on a future model.

    So much contrast and details.
I like the conversion a lot, too. Carrying that stuff on the back like the tarp fixed with the tiny belts and the Orruk skull.
Magnificent. Every time I look at the pictures I notice another tiny detail. This is serious display stuff of a level only very few of us reach.
