But it has connotations with the sky, which is where the AoS Lizardmen come from.

I like it, but I think this sounds more like a warrior society than a "species" name.

I kind of like this one.

Itza for the Mayan/old lore connection, as it was both a tribe of ancient Maya and the capitol of the Lizardmen empire in the Warhammer lore.

And the "zaurians" in the second part of the name sounds a like like "saurians," which calls to mind both saurus warriors, and dinosaurs.

I like Sauraphon. It isn’t too much of a change from the current name, still a play on “Seraphim”, and, most importantly, will keep us from having to be associated with...well...that...

Throwing more ideas to the pot its good to mention the introduction video from Total War: Warhammer 2 which uses the following phase Defenders of the World as well as there is a Kroq'Gar faction called The Last Defenders.
Whereas these names tell you nothing about the defenders being dinosaurs and lizards, it much less confusing than the AoS name (Seraphon) and actually gives them a specific purpose. Not sure what to defend in a shattered dominion though...

Throughout the Total War: Warhammer 2 game the combined factions are all simply called the Lizardmen. Now here is the interesting part, it looks like the video game adaptation is bringing new audiences to the tabletop and these audiences look for their favorite factions. Its a weird decision in my opinion to have this distinction between the Seraphon and the Lizardmen between WH:FB and WH:AoS IPs. This leads me to weird conversations with friends that don't know the universe sometimes and I would have much easier life if they were simply called by their original name,

If not trademarked, one could also borrow the name Lizardfolk from the D&D franchise ;)

TL;DR = I like the original Lizardmen name the most

On the topic of naming has anyone else's stores changed from "Games workshop" to "Warhammer" just wondering as it's been like that awhile but just strikes me as odd. I

Yep, my most local one has, but there are still a couple near me that have remained as ‘Games Workshop’. What I don’t understand is why GW decided to only change some to ‘Warhammer’ stores and keep others as ‘Games Workshop’ ones rather than changing them all to Warhammer - as far as I can see there are no differences between the two.

I think renaming all of them to "Warhammer" store is probably a good idea.
Many people don't know what Games Workshop is, but Warhammer is a kinda well-known franchise by now.

How about the Tlaloc? after the Aztec god of the heavens? he was the god of rain and lightning and thunder, which keeps the Azyr element, had connection to scaly and aquatic things (fish and salamanders mostly but i suspect semi-aquatic lizards would count if they'd existed in the region IRL)
depictions also appear in mayan sites as well.

plus he usually is depicted in a fairly bestial fashion, with scales, fangs, etc.

I think I would like that.
But that's the kind of name GW would never pick as it it impossible to copyright.
