Gotrek's stats went out today https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/09/05/gotrek-vs-the-mortal-realms/ The blender to end all blenders, mostly balanced around the fact he'll be waddling forward for half the game. He's another model to add to add our extremely limited ally pool. Seems like a fun pick if you just want a hero to murder everything.
and no deep strike shenanigans i don't think this guy will ever get into combat but if he does wow he is a monster
No point to take him to competitive game, really. He costs 520 points, so he cannot be an ally for 2k-3k games and can ba taken only as ORDER allegiance because of keywords. And it will take him 2-3 turns at minimum to get to melee. But his stats and rules are ridiculous, yes.
His rules state that no other units can be used as allies and he is able to ignore the ally point limit. Still he isn't a good choice. 520 points is better spent on units that can hold objectives.
or at the very least get on objectives. even if you just use him as a beat stick every one can just avoid him he is to slow to mater a depressing trend with melee assassins
Yeah, somehow missed this. Still he is a quarter of 2k army with 4" movement and 0 synergy. Summoning armies can just throw chaff at him, still taking objectives. But I see him good in battleplans with HERO-only scoring rules.
One day someone will figure out a way to speed him up and Grotek missiles will become a thing. Just not right now thankfully.
I might proxy the one Fyreslayer model I have (from the Silver Tower set) and play it with Gotreks warscroll tonight. Just for the lulz.
Here is a list. The two "allied" Slanns represent Gotrek's points. Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General Skink Starpriest (80) Slann Starmaster (260) - Allies Slann Starmaster (260) - Allies Battleline 10 x Skinks (70) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (70) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Terradon Riders (240) - Sunleech Bolas Battalions Shadowstrike Starhost (180) Endless Spells / Terrain Chronomantic Cogs (80) Total: 1500 / 1500 Extra Command Points: 1 Allies: 520 / 200 Wounds: 63
endless spells may do the job. Launchon the soulseeker: Gotrek would be slain, but he takes only 1 mortal wounds. which can be negated on a 3+ or Soulscream bridge
His rules say that no spell or ability that would allow him to be resetup on the table after the deployment phase can be used on him. So he always has to manually move. Only movement speed buffing affects would work. Making Cogs the best option at the moment.
Gotrek is useful for the hero scoring missions. I think if there is an event that has 3 places of power and duality of death it's definitely worth considering him as an ally option. He does fill a role our army does not have.. - A true hammer
The main issue is his low movement characteristic. And that he is vulnerable to weight of attacks. Seeing as hordes on 25mm bases with 2" are the meta it makes him very vulnerable to being enveloped and slain. He is still a very fun unit, but is not competitive. My gaming club plans to use a Gotrek in Triumph and Treachery for each player.
Right, I agree the downside is the movement - he would absolutely need Cogs (which isn't the biggest ask for seraphon since you can turn cogs of for extra spells once gotrek is on an objective) My question to the community which I think is worth testing is if there is a tournament where 3 of 5 missions he can really tilt the odds in your favor - he might be worth taking. To your point against hordes he is weak for sure- but enough skink screens enveloping him can buy you 3 turns of scoring. Also for those hordes without 2 inch reach, which happen to be the most prevalent and scary: (very few hordes have 2 inch reach on 25 mm) daughters, most skaven outside of stormvermin, most death units and they really can only muster about 13-14 bodies around a 40 mm base.
One thing we haven't mentioned yet: Making an awesome Saurus hero and playing him with Gotrek rules is an option. Similar to the awesome giant Ripper mother that one of us played in a tournament (with Celestant Prime Rules).
