It’s cool. I claimed I voted high elves because of their good infantry

But in truth it was for the giant flying lizards

It’s a cool concept, but as a reptile owner it’s hard to see an animal suffer from a horrific genetic defect

But two headed dragons existed in a different edition than stormcast's one. WHFB and not AoS.
...unless they failed the edition of the game because, you know, Chaos. :p

Hahaha... to be honest, I have no clue. As you all know, I really hate AoS. I had no idea that two headed chaos dragons didn't make the transition.

Hmm.... As I have said before, I like the Dogs of War. I was also a fan of the Empire, that side-branch Kislev army GW tried, and of course da Orcs. But for sheer annoyance, I have to vote for Dark Elves.

:oldman: Back before the End Times, I had about 10K worth of Dark Elves still. I miss that army a LOT. Had to sell them to pay bills after layoffs at my wife's job. I custom-kitbashed my own Dark Rider conversions before the plastic ones came out, had enough core units to fill a table, and once fielded a 2000 point Dark Elf army with over 100 elves. Once upon a time Dark Elves had a unit called Cityguard. During 5th? 6th? Can't remember which, but there was a special sub-army list made centered around the Cityguard units. Limit of ONE Sorceress (not Lord-level, either), you lost out on most of the "fun" units, but in a 2000 point army you could, if you wanted to be an ass, field 8, count them 8 Reaper Bolt Throwers. :wideyed: People did NOT like that. I usually never fielded more than four. Even then, people accused me of being cheesy. People who fielded Lord-level characters who were practically UNKILLABLE, accused me of being cheesy because of my Reaper Bolt Throwers.

Most of the people I gamed with back then thought the entire idea of the army was stupid. I LOVED IT. 3 units of 17 Cityguard (6-wide, 3-deep, with space for a character in the front rank). Back two ranks had spears and a 5+ Light armor and shield save, but the FRONT rank... ohhh, that front rank... Repeater crossbow, light armor, shield, and sword. Against shooting, they were only 5+ armor save, but could pump out plenty of shooty death without moving. In melee, that front rank had a 4+ save due to the (at that time) sword-and-shield armor save boost, and because it had spears, the second rank could ALSO fight! This was the Hero-hammer era, when units of skeletons were only there to deliver your tricked out and nearly invincible Vampire Lord into melee.

And I fought EVERY OTHER ARMY TO A STANDSTILL with that Cityguard force!

    ...

Okay, Skaven horde armies still whupped me good, but I could fight Vampire Count armies to a standstill. Didn't WIN a lot, but most fights resulted in a Draw for me, NOT a Loss.

It is a bit strange that the current top two armies are the very same two armies that have been discontinued. What's also interesting is that popular armies like WoC, Empire and O&G are sitting at zero votes.

I think this comes down to how far GW’s model making skills have evolved over time as much as anything, but I’m not actually a massive fan of what I’ve seen of the Tomb Kings, at least from a model perspective.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not attacking the concept behind them! If I’m honest, the whole ‘undead Egyptian’ style of things isn’t really my cup of tea, but the artwork you post of them looks pretty cool, and “Settra does not serve, Settra rules” is a badass catchphrase no matter what your preferences (even if you do like to overuse it somewhat :p). The pictures I’ve seen from Total War serve to support this. The aesthetics and ideas aren’t one hundred percent to my taste, but at least objectively speaking, as an idea, they are pretty awesome.

However, I’ve got to be honest, by today’s standards what I’ve seen of the models look pretty silly. On a lot of them, the proportions seem a bit strange, and the skeletons just look downright goofy. One or two of the models might still hold up today, but the rest just look a bit stupid if I’m brutally honest. However, I get the sense a lot of that is less to do with the models themselves and more to do with how far GW have come in model making. I am still relatively new to the hobby of Warhammer, and so when I joined, I imagine the standards are much higher when it comes to the quality of the designs and models than they used to be. And because of this, I think I’ve become accustomed to a far more detailed and impressive level of models. Those models were likely cutting edge when they came out, but things seem to have come a long way since then.

Let’s face it, when you’re used to this level of quality:

    This:

    C4473B3A-87C4-46AC-AF5F-9D2693459794.jpeg

Is always going to seem a bit rubbish in comparison! :p

So to sum up, while I might not want them myself, I imagine that is GW were to release new and updated versions of the Tomb King models that were more at today’s standards, I would likely change my tune on Tomb Kings quite considerably! As it is, the concept behind them is still a strong one. However, until then, whilst I admire the lore, I’m afraid at least from a modelling perspective I just can’t get all that excited about them.

While I do like the fish elves, they are nowhere near the level of the TK in my eyes.

As for your comparison, you literally cherry-picked some of (if not the) oldest models in the range. I'll put this newer stuff over the Fish Elves any day...

And then you still have classics like...

More detail does not necessarily translate over to a model being better. I think some of GW's newer stuff has too much detail.
