Looks more like some kind of instrument, like harp strings almost?

The new host introduced in the current white dwarf supposedly utilizes the slaves of darkness more. So there's that I guess.

The way they converge seems to suggest that they hold something, I don't think it is an instrument.

It might be some bow, crossbow, or ballista, although I know of only one historic example with multiple bow strings (other than those which also had multiple arms, like the infamous Chinese triple crossbow).

This one. Although I admire I am not quite sure what the second string is for.

More than one string on a pair of arms doesn't make a lot of sense.
(Not that that has ever prevented GW from using something if they think it looks cool).

Isn't the second string there simply to put yet another bit of tension on it, so you can pull your arrow just a little further backward and shoot just a little further without breaking it. Or perhaps so you can use a material that normally would be unfit to make the bow out as you can again pull it back just a little bit further?

Unless your string is the weak part it doesn't make much sense as you actually lose energy compared to the one string.
And in any case it is better to only have the outermost string and just make is stronger.
There is no sense in pulling anywhere else except the ends of the arms. Which is why it is never done.

I can imagine that the second string is some kind of a damper against what archers call hand shock (energy going back into the arms) if it is elastic and prevents the arms from swinging too much into the other direction, after the bolt has been accelerated.

Or it is some part of the loading mechanism, but I cannot see why. Either your string is tough enough to stand the forces on it's own or it isn't, and in the latter case you cannot use it to shoot anyway.
    Really weird design.

Hmm a crossbow would be too obvious I think, but besides a crossbow or a war machine I'm not sure.

what your describing is 100% a vibration absorber. we use them in helicopters to reduce vibrations from shaking the machine apart. there are a few on the bird I flew (UH-60) but the primary is an almost free floating weight attached only by flexible rubber, which is what this string would be. we also have the same issue with hoses when firefighting, although the term there is called "Water Hammer". the water passing through the hose can cause back pressure energy into the user (think newtons laws equal and opposite) and we reduce it by slowly opening the handheld in stead of slamming it back wide open. cross bows don't have the luxury of a slow release of energy lol.

If I had to hazard a guess, might be a new Reaper Bolt Thrower. Three strings, obviously a laminated bowstring. COULD be Ogres, but looks elvish. Unless those bow struts are actually metal...

The little metal loops holding the strings are almost identical to those seen on the decorative tassels and shark teeth adorning the Deepkin. This is almost definitely some piece of aelf artillery or one of their instruments.

Yes! 2.0 updates for the 2.0 armies. We need a full remake, and the 3rd edition of AoS will bring it!

We had one of the first Battletomes of the first AoS edition, we will get the first Battletomes of the third edition. Sounds natural. :D

(Ok probably not, but I like the thought that they might be delaying Seraphon because they want to make them more epic in the next big version :D )
