meh it only really works with space marine chapters anyway. Together they form a large faction, with many options for strategies & equipment, which are standardized. Allowing for a large shared base battletome. But each subfaction also has a distinct enough specialisation to actually create distinct fighting styles & personalities, which is only doable due to the sheer variety of forces that already exists in the base tome. AoS doesn't have any factions like that. The SCE come close, but even they fall short. The best AoS can manage is the subfactions listed in the various tomes, but those rarely have more than a handfull of special rules and you can't fill an entire supplement with that. And of course, none of those subfactions are anywhere near as well established as the space marine chapters.

There's also the fact that a medieval fantasy universe doesn't allow for as much variance in weapons & styles of warfare compared to sci-fi. There's not that big a difference between an army that prefers fighting with a sword or with an axe . However, the difference between a flamer based army and a plasma based army in 40K is quite large.

So I don't think this'l happen any time soon. At the very least not until we get a hell of a lot more fluff to flesh out subfactions.

they might get their if their subfactions get fleshed out enough :p

They do have a decent amount of variation in tactics though. Which I don't dislike. Imho the faction isn't terrible, it's just that their initial fluff & models were such an obvious space marine rip-off that made them underwhelming. Their newer stuff is slowly developing some character of their own.

Space Marine players already have to buy $130 worth of rule books to play

I've just got my (vitual) fingers on the recent BTs, and the Ogors one had a really cool sheet with 3/4 worth of kitbashing ideas for them (sorry for not leaving the text, I just don't know how to copy the entire pages :hungover:).

Damn, this guys surely have to be fun to customize! I really like the Ironjawz but this guys makes me rethink what Destruction army I want to have sometime in the future.

Let's hope this kind of pages keep coming in the future. I'm quite sure we will not get them in the Seraphon BT, but getting this kind of details in any book is always welcome.

The so-called 'Codex supplements' don't really count as Codices proper though, they just add some extra army special rules for those who want to play a particular chapter, whereas proper Codices have all the unit entries too.

Yet another reason why 8th Edition 40K is such a mess compared to the glorious 5th and 6th Editions

What about if they had been heavily Egyptified, with Necron heads and greenstuffed headdresses and neckpieces like those on the Tomb Guard plastics?

Certainly that's what I would do with them if I got any, whether as a gift or through any other hypothetical scenario that ended with some in my hands. May not be exactly the same as the real thing, but not only would they be all your own work, they would also be something more easily obtainable for EBayphobes like myself.

Usually when GW increases the number of manuals and armybooks, it means we're approaching a new edition. The new "balanced" (sort of) system is unbalanced by releases that shift the power balance, one-sided adjustments and corrections on the run. Every new product is an additional weght on the carriage that is running down the hill, increasing its speed, 'til the point where the system is no more salvageable and you need a new edition.
(it's not a thing that is limited to GW or miniatures gaming in general. We saw it happen with 3.5 D&D)

Of course, they still need to throw at us another bunch of various manuals, before that point.

Bit early for a Ninth Edition though, isn't it? (But then GW did release 7th Edition only a couple of years after 6th, when 6th should have had at least a couple of more years).

I suppose if someone had exceptional conversion skills anything is possible. However, those new models won't be cheap and when you factor in the cost of all the conversion bits and the time to convert them all, I'd just go with the actual TK models.

Plus in my case, I already have a full and complete TK army, so I definitely wouldn't be adding these new Ossiarch Bonereapers to it. Plus my conversion skills aren't sufficient to pull off such a monumental feat.

Well, for someone who doesn't have any TK models like myself, a set of 20 Mortek Guard would be £35, and a pack of greenstuff to Egyptify them would cost £7, for a total price of £42 (assuming I have enough Necron heads and bases to go round). The best I can find on EBay for the plastic Tomb Guard, on the other hand, is a whopping £65, and that's for 10 of them that have been built and sprayed white. 20 of them would be double that at £130, meaning that a mighty saving of £88.

That is a cost vs. quality calculation that each of us would have to make for ourselves (I think we know where I'm going to fall on the issue).

Are they even the same size? How important is it for you that they blend in well with the rest of your TK army? Is the rest of your TK army going to be comprised of official TK models?

I'm satisfied with it. It is a huge army!

Of course, I could always add a few extra models to a unit here or there, but it is a more complete army than my WoC or Lizardmen.

All those characters are probable buys. I'd buy the flying pulpit simply to put the space pope mini on it
